I’ve never had a problem the few times that I been to L&J. Honestly my favorite Mexican place will always be Andale, not once have I ever had a bad experience there. So, I decided to go to L&J cause it’s closer and I was hungry. Food was good, not the best Mexican food in El Paso but not bad at all. Today however, was one of the worst experiences I’ve had in any restaurant est. I asked for the check, the total came out to $45 and change for two people. Normally I like to see the total amount before I transfer money from my savings to checking. I do this cause I don’t like anyone digging into money they aren’t entitled to. So I moved $50 to my checkings and hand my card to the waiter. He tried it twice cause I got two notifications on my phone saying it failed. He comes back telling me it didn’t go thru, I said that’s impossible, I just moved $50 to checkings to pay the fine. He said he would try it again, so he does and I get the notification again. This time I open it and I realize that the waiter is trying to charge me $57 dollars and change instead of the $45. I asked him why is he trying to charge me a different amount, he plays the clueless card that he doesn’t understand why that’s happening. He tries my card again and I told him it’s not gonna go thru cause I only put enough to pay the charge. I gave him cash instead since he was gonna continue to play the clueless game. Left him with $3 change cause I think that’s what he’s worth after trying to tip himself using my card. (FYI: I was gonna tip him good lol) Let me tell you one last thing, it’s not the food that’s bad, it’s the people that they hire that make your experience bad and make you not want to come back. Surely I’ll never come back, I’ll stick to...

Read moreTried this place last night after a local said it was the best in town, hands down. After reading many reviews we couldn't wait to try the Tortilla soup and Chicken Enchiladas Verde. I travel to Mex about 40 times a year and eat tortilla soup everywhere I go. This version was the best I've ever had! The smoky chipotle flavor puts it over the top! Lots of chicken, and no skimping on the avocado garnish. You must try it!
The enchiladas were a bit of a let-down, for a couple of reasons: First, the dish was comprised of 3 EMPTY rolled tortillas placed on the plate and then TOPPED with a hearty portion of shredded chicken, peppers and cheese. By very definition it is misleading to call this "enchiladas" as the words "filled with....and rolled" are part of enchilada definition. The flavor was good but not great. The chicken tasted like plain poached chicken with zero seasonings. If not for all the flavorful peppers, the dish would be very bland. The beans were outstanding but very small portion. The rice was awful. My daughter and I both detected a strange "off" flavor that we couldn't place. Something about them tasted "old" or rancid. Inedible.
The chips and salsa were excellent. We chose to eat at the bar instead of continuing to wait for our table. We were only given the red salsa and had to wait a while to get their attention to try the green. Both are delicious. The red in particular is very unique.
The margaritas were ok but weak. Would rather pay more to have more than a trace of liquor. Perhaps bartenders could offer a "fresh poured" version for those that don't want the weak one from the pre-made containers.
Overall we enjoyed our dinner and will definitely return...
