Street Food Kingz — Restaurant in Elgin

I’ll start by saying the food was good. The steak empanada was absolutely amazing. I also got the carne frita mofango. The pork was extremely overcooked and dry. The rice was ok, but the mofango was good.

I ordered online at 11:30a with a 12:50 pickup. It’s about a half hour drive for me, so I left at noon to give a little buffer. Half way there I get a text the pickup changed to 1:20. Get there, find a parking spot and sit for 40 minutes. Go in at 1:15 and was told it’ll be a couple of minutes. While there I noticed the counter was unstaffed most of the time, despite people waiting to order. There were a couple times despite the line, a worker would come to the counter and stand there looking at his phone, not helping anyone then go back. 1:20 came and went. Finally at 1:33 I got a text that my food was ready. The couple of times I saw an employee, they did everything they could to avoid eye contact. Finally got my food after trying to get the attention of a couple employees. 🤷‍♂️

Considering it took them 2 hours to make my food, I expected a line out the door, but that was not even close to the case. I’d love to grab some more of those empanada, but the wait time is just not worth the...

My boyfriend & I were contemplating what to eat on a Sunday late at night & we found this place looking up food near me on google and decided to be adventurous. We hate trying new places just because we don’t wanna be disappointed but something about this place made us place an order without hesitation. We got a few different empanadas (spicy steak, steak and shrimp w/cheese and shrimp, cheese and jalapeños) and extra sides of the mayoketchup sauce. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. My boyfriend and I are very hard critiques when it comes to food so it’s hard to impress us but when we took a bite out of the shrimp, cheese and jalapeño specifically drenched in the mayoketchup salsa our jaws literally dropped. We stared at each other not being able to say a word and I cannot make this up 🤣. The owner (Danny) is just a nice guy I even texted the # you can put orders in and had to tell him myself how fire it was. 100/10 I recommend EVERYBODY needs to try this. Life changing. Literally. We catered an event feeding approximately 40 adults and 10 children. Food was delicious and enjoyed by ALL guests! Packed with layers of flavor!! Price for the food we ordered was very fair (approximately $15/person). Would have posted pictures had I known it was an option. The owner (Denny) is great to deal with and speak with, but challenging to encounter until you show up in person to pick up the food (that’s the only reason I gave 4 stars for service rather than 5). Not sure why there is an “atmosphere” category when it is strictly pick up (or delivery?) I realize most everyone does “text” or “online ordering” in this day and age, but personalization is something I both like and cherish. I feel Denny (owner) is great guy that could take it to an even higher level IF he had the right people behind him in doing so. Perhaps someone for phone to at least answer catering questions..?

Regardless, we will be regular customers and will most certainly use their catering services again (…and again)!! Thanks...
