The Haight — Attraction in Elgin

It is hard to give any less than five stars as our wedding day was amazing! The Haight is very beautiful venue and a unique spot to get married and have permanent photos taken!

However, our wedding coordinator Mellissa could be have been better. To start off, she was not quick to answer emails. There would be several days in between before I would get a response.

We received several complaints throughout the day about how she was unorganized and no where to be found. She also had my guests help with setting up as she didn’t know where things went and complained she didn’t know what to do with things even though everything was listed on a spreadsheet beforehand. Our day could have went more smoothly with a wedding coordinator that was more organized and understanding. We felt that we were of a burden for her and I felt some attitude given as I would ask questions throughout the day. There were several times that she stated how she was “new”. Of course everyone has to start somewhere but it shouldn’t be an excuse for more than one thing. She complained when I had to go pump since I’m breastfeeding that we were running behind schedule. Even though she never was there to tell me this or coordinate our wedding party for introductions At the end of the day, we coordinated our parents to take home our things. The coordinator was supposed to make sure this was handled as we were busy enjoying our time. Instead, our stuff was left in a pile. She never cared to make sure it was going to be put in someone’s car or to find my parents as they were leaving. She watched them leave and claimed she wasn’t aware. As we did not have a car, we asked if we can leave our things there and pick up Monday ( I know it was against policy.) but the response was as very rude. The security guard told us that it would be left on the curb as they can’t keep any personal belongings at the venue. I understand there are rules to follow, but for how much you pay and give to this venue they could have been more understanding. We were left to cart all of our things out on the night of our wedding. We felt that with the amount of money you spend at this place we could have been treated better. Part of the reason I booked with “The Haight” was because a wedding coordinator was included. But to be honest she wasn’t all that helpful. Was so excited to have our wedding at The Haight, upon booking we were working with Brianna which was absolutely wonderful. Once she left it all went down hill from there. Our wedding was scheduling for August 21 2021, we booked The Haight in 2019. Of course COVID hit & businesses were greatly impacted. We still made sure to make our payments on time, we understood how difficult this was for businesses. We were hopeful for August. Once things got closer we met with the venue to begin to finalize some details. We soon realized that it might be better to reschedule for 2022 as The Haight suggested we did our wedding in waves. We were expecting 150 guests and they suggested we do 50 at a time, so 50 come for a bit then leave and then the next few come. It was very strange. We then received an email that if we would like to do 2022 we could do Tuesday - Thursday. Being business owners ourselves that was just not possible and we felt very hurt by the management responses. With our wedding date approaching in less then 5 months we were starting to get worried. We wanted to discuss with the owners. They called us during our business hours and stated that they have children and after 3 pm doesn’t work for them. Also very shocking as I could never imagine telling my customers something like that. Email communication was getting us nowhere as we were not given many options that made us feel confident spending the amount of money the venue charges for the suggestions given to us. In further communication, without giving us good options they then made it seem like we were defaulting on our payments and terminated our contract. We lost 6k, initial deposit we understand not to be refundable but a bar package that had not been purchased as well as additional payments towards the venue where services were never received.. I recently celebrated my June 2024 wedding at The Haight, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. From start to finish, our experience with The Haight was nothing short of extraordinary!

Our guests were equally impressed with the venue and the exceptional service provided by The Haight. We received numerous compliments on the beauty of the location and the smooth flow of the event.
