They are fully opened now but wanted to add my review from their tasting. The restaurant scene in Elizabeth City has been booming as of late. Lots of new dishes, location changes, and upcoming restaurants.
With that, I was honored when Chef John invited us to his private tasting at Allecious Restaurant . With his many years as a Chef in a private kitchen as well as in our military, I knew I was in for a treat!
We walked into a dimly lit restaurant and we were greeted by Chef John. Immediately nothing but good vibes from John. Friendly, family oriented and you can tell he takes great pride in what he is doing.
My wife and I walked around both sections of the restaurant to decide where we were sitting. Very spacious and plenty of table and booth seating. Those with little ones will be pleased to find a booster seat and high chair if needed.
The evening was a focus on tastings so the menu was limited. I made sure to sample as much as I could to get a feel for the style of the cuisine.
Let's start with their Frog Legs. This is something the wife nor I have ever tried but after seeing the perfectly fried golden brown legs paired with the amazing aroma of food in the room...it was hard to turn them down. The old saying that they taste like chicken is somewhat true. Just imagine the juiciest chicken leg you have ever had paired with just the right amount of seasoning. My wife and I both had seconds on this.
Next on my many plates was their Honey JalapeƱo cornbread. Cornbread is one of those things that it's either good or it's not but Chef John surpassed my mark on this. The Cornbread was nice and moist, the jalapenos gave a nice kick which was complimented well with the honey. 11/10 š¤¤.
If you are a seafood person like myself, these next few dishes are a must.
Scallops, these were served both fried and broiled. For me, scallops are always an easy go to but the seasonings on these were top notch. š.
Oysters Rockefeller, this was another first for me but again, the food smelled so good that I had to dig in and I am glad I did. I can't compare these to others since it was a first for me but I can tell you that I am HOOKED. I feel like I have been missing out on life and Chef John has shown me the way.
Crab Cakes, now this is something I am well versed in. As someone who used to work in the OBX and has tried more than a fair share from various restaurants here and in Maryland....Allecious is definitely sitting on top in EC and at least top 5 overall. There were served alone but I hope to see maybe a sandwhich with these š .
Along with the seafood, there was also some pasta on the tasting menu for the evening. I didn't catch the name but it was a creamy white mushroom sauce. My wife gave it her seal of approval. (I think she even got seconds lol).
For dessert there was a choice of three cakes. Blueberry cheesecake poundcake, Strawberry cheesecake poundcake and Sweet potato pound cake. While they were all good, the Sweet potato poundcake really stole the show. Tasted much like a spice cake with the after taste of the sweet potato, it was served with a caramel sauce that tasted home made. My wife and I fought over that last bite as we shared it š.
There were some other items on the tasting menu but I really wanted to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLet me start with to my server it was not you, as NONE of this was in any way your fault. She kept my drinks refilled and was super polite and respectful. I see this opinion is shared among some others in the reviews and honestly, I wish I had read them before coming here. I saw a video on Facebook as an ad for this place from a content creator and sent it to my boyfriend who lives in Elizabeth City. The food was just flat out terrible. I ordered the spinach and artichoke dip without bacon (accommodated us no problem - not the issue) and it was 90% cream cheese. It didnāt taste like spinach or artichoke. Just cream cheese. We ordered a prime rib to split as we had a large brunch. We asked for it to be medium. The āprime ribā came out raw. Not even rare. Raw. My boyfriend eats medium rare steak and he said no, this is just not cooked. We sent it back (server had no issue, she was great) and the same steak (āprime ribā) that we had cut a piece off of returns to us on a new plate, now well done. Now aside from this, this was no cut of prime rib that I had ever seen. Iām fairly sure we got some kind of other cut of steak. So in total we each got about 3 bites of some kind of beef and the rest was entirely fat. The Mac and cheese was mostly just Mac, not too much cheese. It was so dry. The candied yams - honestly after everything else I tasted I donāt know if they were actually good or everything else was just that bad. Again, nothing on the wait staff that I encountered. I had heard such good things about this place and left highly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen hearing good things about this place. My wife and stopped in on a Thursday early evening. There were at least 7-8 other couples already seated. Waitress was prompt and very knowledgeable about the menu. Prime Rib was the special but, we had seafood on the brain. I ordered the Cajun Shrimp/ Scallops over linguine W/ Cajun seasoned Alfredo Sauce. I got 5-6 butterfly shrimp and the same amount of whole ocean Scallops. It was a hearty bowl that I couldn't stop eating. I had to order a second bread serving to sop up all the sauce. I would have licked bowl if i wasn't in a restaurant. It was very filling and the Cajun seasoning wasn't over powering. Delish! My wife order the Flounder dinner, she chose fried. Two generous Flounder filets came with the meal. Flounder was lightly battered and fried to perfection. She normally brings home a doggy bag but, she ate every bite of the Flounder, two sides. Owner/Chef came out and chatted us up. He cut his teeth in the chow halls of the Navy and Army and perfected his seafood at the very popular Pirates Cove in Chesapeake. Would we go back again? Absolutely...Tuesday is Shrimp and Grits...can't wait. This is another hidden gem in Elizabeth City. The waitress kept my Sweet Tea glass filled without me asking. Restaurant was clean and the restrooms...
