Make your reservations now! The Culpeper Inn is one of these gems of places that once you find them they are bookmarked in your mind forever. We came across this place after being evacuated from Ocracoke with the arrival of hurricane Dorian. Upon arrival we were met by Holly and Mike the inn keepers, such lovely people who really made us feel at home right away. We had four nights here and each day was very good. Amenities are excellent with the use of their 'tavern' room where there are board games, TV's and tea and coffee making available along with fresh baked goods. It's the sort of place that takes you back to a time of such great hospitality, decor and thoughtfulness you thought had been forgotten. Do not hesitate in booking here, it is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Elizabeth City and within walking distance of the town and waterfront and the restaurants there. You are also within driving distance of Edenton, the outer Banks and many other places too. Wonderful place.

Amazing atmosphere. Each guest room has a different theme, we were put in the Patriot Room which made my friend emotional since we were there to visit her father in the hospital and he is a Vietnam vet. The tavern room was fully stocked with breakfast items and the owner stopped to make us a fresh pot of coffee before going to his doctor appointment. The cleaning lady came by and was extremely nice as well. We wish we could have stayed longer but we will definitely be back! My first time ever staying at a bnb and i couldnt be happier!

I had a brief stay at the Culpepper over Easter weekend. It was wonderful. The grounds were beautiful, the room was comfy and cozy, and it was a very quiet area. If I return to the area, we will absolutely stay again. The self check in process was very simple, and the instructions via email were very clear and easy to follow. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.

I really wanted to like this place because the older couple are maintaining “history” by keeping up this house while of course profiting extremely in the process. I left a good review on Airbnb due to this fact alone. Here is the actual review: The bathtub was from the 80’s, olive drab green, dark, and crusty as if 409 was just sprayed on and left. Soaps and other toiletries are seriously lacking. Most doors don’t lock or close easy if even at all. I paid through Airbnb which had the tag on it as “near the beach”. This is 100% false. Over an hour to a decent beach with tolls and more if you decide to go on a busy weekend. Through Airbnb I reserved the only room that appeared available and it wasn’t in the main inn. Could care less. Well they seem to have over booked or double booked my room because they “upgraded” us to the main inn yet denied us breakfast with all the other main inn guests leaving us to feel like we were kind of in the way. I even asked if I could pay for breakfast so my lady could eat before the long drive to the beach and was told “no that’s illegal”. Not even kidding. The free breakfast is all costco bulk items or the cook is just terrible. Everything was dry and cold. The yogurt in the fridge is literally a spoon full. You get one spoon of yoplait. The fruit cup is dried and looks as though it was on the last few days of its lifespan. 2/3 coffee pots work and both the working ones were empty by 8:15. We were very careful in the room as it reminded us both of our grandmas and you know what grandma does if you mess up her stuff. Yet she left a review on my Airbnb complaining because 1. We didn’t utilize coasters....trust me, the 2 available were used even though they were warm beach beers since the mentioned room fridge isn’t actually in existence. Then I got a complaint because i left 3 unopened Coronas for the husband of the older couple running the place. Thought he would enjoy free beer and I didn’t want to drive with it. Well I got literally shamed for thinking that way. She also claimed we ripped her 20 year old, Walmart branded mattress protector that was under the sheets that weren’t damaged at all. Seriously, just spend $10 every 20 years and get a fresh one. I think that is long enough but there is more.....oh if you want to sit in the bench outside you need to weigh less that 115lbs because it sinks into the ground and slams your head on the dirt if you try to use it. My lady was not happy about that either.

P.S. they are not electric car friendly AT ALL. I asked to use a normal outlet overnight to charge my electric only Tesla so I wouldn’t get stranded (no super chargers in Elizabeth city) and was talked down to and critiqued for asking. Average cost of charging a Tesla model 3 for one night.....1.33 cents if charged to full. I do 80% so less that a dollar. She “Holly” wasn’t...

The good is the room and that’s about it and even that we had issues with the water not going down after a shower so I had to stand in the water from my husbands shower. As I write this review I will preface it by saying I have been a super host for Airbnb since 2014 and over 400 guests and my reviews have been spectacular because I treat everyone with respect. I have traveled extensively my entire life and have never been treated or spoken to like the woman who owns the Inn. Her name is Holly and the one thing I know about her for sure is she is very RUDE.. She told us if we wanted an early arrival it would be 1/2 the cost of the room. We decided to find things to and arrived at 2:37 with no intentions of checking in until 3. Well out she comes on her porch and says…” ARE YOU RITA?” I responded YES. She rudely yelled, “ YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE TILL 3!” I told her we had no intentions of entering the room early and we just found the place and parked on the gravel where we were instructed to park and we just needed to sort some things out in the car. BTW everybody we were THE ONLY OTHER CAR THERE BESIDES HERS! She yelled “ JUST GO IN NOW THAT YOUR HERE YOUR ROOM IS READY!” No way in hell was I going in that room till 3 PM. I will say the room was lovely but THAT IS IT!! If this was her true self that she showed us then she most definitely needs to be in a job where she doesn’t interact with people!! My husband is really laid back and he’s not bothered by much but he couldn’t get out of there fast enough.. nor could I. Think before you go...

This venue is a wonderful quiet getaway but walking distance to multiple restaurants, shops, and breweries with live music occassionally. It is exclusive in they only have a select number of rooms and only those staying in rooms are using the venue. The grounds are well kept with flower and vegetable gardens and plenty of outdoor seating. There is a Tavern Room where continental breakfast is available in the morning and a work desk is available in the afternoon. The breakfast is your typical continental hotel breakfast except there are farm fresh local eggs available to make. The rooms are comfortable with private bath, tasteful decor fitting the room name, and either electric or gas fireplace (we have stayed numerous times in different rooms and have loved them all). Mike and Holly are more than willing and able to help you, providing dinner or activity recommendations, giving history of the town and the inn. They are also very genuine: their faith is on display throughout the property, but not in your face to where all would not feel welcome. Policies to maintain the inn's quiet atmosphere are posted in nunerous places. I had seen reviews getting upset about some of those policies, but they are all communicated in advance either on the websites, with self-check in sent to your email, or on the signs. We love our stay everytime and cannot wait...
