Went to Currituck BƁQ in Elizabeth City today at lunch with my work family. We were a group of 12 people. We arrived around 1145 am and were the first people in the dining room so we quickly found our seats with no issues. One of my co-workers streamlined the ordering process by writing everyone's order down and taking it to the register so we all didn't have to do it. The employees were pleasant and got our food to us quickly. The restaurant was clean. The food: I ordered the Throwback Thursday Special which consisted of pulled pork BBQ w/ two sides - i got cole slaw & fries, hush puppies and a 16 Oz drink for $6.99. Price was good and portion size was ok BUT the BBQ was bland. It didn't have no spice to it and the smoke was lacking. It NEEDED sauce. The sign of good NC pork BBQ is the prominence of the smoke and a little kick from vinegar & pepper. Good BBQ don't need sauce, this BBQ needed it so that was disappointing. That said there were several sauces on the table. I would go back to try their brisket and burnt ends. Also, they should add pulled smoked Turkey...
Read moreThe portion sizes are WAY smaller than any other BBQ spot that I have ever been to. I’m from MD, and I was surprised to see how little you get for $40… which is so shocking to me again just comparing MD bbq joints to this place’s BBQ… I thought you’d at minimum get the same value and portions, not less down south. We got 2 platters and one extra side of Mac n cheese, and “burnt ends”… the burnt ends were just brisket. So beware of that, if you are expecting TRUE burnt ends. The pork looks odd, but the taste is good. We also were not offered or given ANY BBQ sauce at all…. So that is upsetting, we had to drive all the way back to get the bbq sauce, which now our food isn’t going to be warm and fresh. The “burnt ends” are VERY TENDER, it’s weird lol, but if you just think of them as brisket, then the texture is great, not very Smokey tasting, so again that’s odd to me. Mac n cheese was good, Colt slaw was fine, sweet potato casserole was eh, it was over seasoned/ too sweet, but still edible. All in all, I’m not sure we will be back… just not enough food, not a good experience… sad...
Read moreBeing from eastern N.C., I have that special appreciation for local BBQ, so I went there with anticipation! I ordered the BBQ sandwich plus one fried drumstick so I could sample their chicken while I was there. Order taker asked me what sides I wanted with the drumstick, and I replied no sides, just a drumstick. She said chicken was on the menu, priced with sides, and said she did not know what to do if someone ordered a drumstick, and went into the back and reappeared with a manager or owner-type person. That lady also said she could not serve one drumstick because she did not know how to price it. I thanked them and went next door to KFC and had fried chicken for lunch. Advice: If you ever have a restaurant next door to another restaurant, everything in your place should be for sale to a paying customer. If your people lose business because they cannot price a drumstick,...
