⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “A Local Treasure That’ll Win You Over Bite by Bite!”
We were just looking for a good spot to grab dinner near Fort Knox and stumbled on El Tapatio—and now it’s easily one of our favorite places to eat in the area. The food, the atmosphere, the service—everything was way beyond what we expected.
My wife is vegetarian and always a little cautious about where we go, but El Tapatio blew us both away. She got the veggie enchiladas and couldn’t stop raving about how flavorful and fresh everything tasted. They really know how to season their food here—nothing bland, nothing boring. And let me tell you, their flan? Next level. My wife said it’s the best she’s ever had—creamy, rich, and just the right amount of sweetness. I had the carne asada, and it came out sizzling and perfectly cooked. The portion sizes were generous without being overwhelming, and every bite was packed with flavor.
The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the whole place has a relaxed, homey vibe that makes you want to stay and soak it all in. Honestly, we were already talking about what we’ll order next time before we even paid the bill.
If you’re anywhere near Fort Knox and love real, satisfying Mexican food—especially with great vegetarian options—do yourself a favor and check this place out. This isn’t just a restaurant, it’s the kind of spot you end up recommending to...
Read moreI've always been a fan of this restaurant but they are simply abysmal anymore. I carryout once or twice a month from this restaurant and I've now had 5.5 messed up orders on the year (and it's October). Today, I was not given my extra cups of queso that I paid $5 per unit (after they had lost my order when I went to pick it up). I called about it and they told me they'd have my two cups of queso if I came back to the restaurant. I got there and was given a bag with "extra chips and salsa" for my trouble. I walked out, checked the bag on the way to my car, and I was missing queso. Seriously? I had to go back in and wait to have my other cup of queso retrieved. No apologies or compensation.
Here's the thing: I've worked in food service and retail and I get that mistakes happen. However, this is 5 times I have been missing a whole portion of my order and the first time they messaged up the fix. Had I taken their word and gotten home to find it was wrong again, I would be certain to never give them my business again.
Don't waste your time or money ordering carryout from this place. They WILL mess up your order and they WON'T do anything to make it right on an acceptable level. Seriously. I guarantee I will not be contacted about this review. El Tap used to be great. It sucks now. It legitimately and...
Read moreI go here multiple times (2-4) a week, so I consider myself a bit of a "regular." I have seen the best and worst of the famed El Tap but I can assure any visitor seeking the best Mexican restaurant in the area that the atmosphere, food, staff, and pricing cannot be matched. Sometimes, albeit very rarely, service can be "slow" --this seems to be the primary criticism (Sunday afternoons are arguably the busiest times); nevertheless, the definition of slow at El Tapatio equates to speedy service at any other restaurant tackling the after-church surge and in the vast majority of times I've eaten there, I have had food in front of me within 10-15 of stepping in the door. More importantly, the food is always terrific, but that is a judgment left to each patron. The entire staff is warm and friendly and has become very familial with me. They will always ask if your meal was great and will recommend the best dishes for the best prices. It is for good reason that El Tap has risen to legendary status among Elizabethtonians. It has become a second home for me when I come back from college, is the best place to meet up with old friends, and is the best to take people visiting town -- I have yet to find someone disappointed with...
