Ocean Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Elk Grove

It's hard to give a bad review. But it's easy to tell the truth. I bought the fish and chicken plate. The fish tasted stale. Not fresh at all. It's probably frozen, like the small pieces of chicken, but the flavor was terrible. I had 2 bites, and that was it. I ate the 2 small chicken strips, and those were decent. The French fries were good. Now for the calamari. Don't even waste your money on the calamari. It's was literally like a large rubber band coated and deep fried. It's was so chewy and flavorless. This was the worst seafood I have ever had, period! 2 stars for service. The lady that brought us the food was nice. The young man at the counter looked like he hated his job. I know that every business runs on a budget, but at least try to make the customer experience a little better. Each meal, fries, fish and chicken, shrimp, calamari, and fries came on a single white flimsy paper plate. Really? Every little thing had an extra charge. Soda.. .50 cent refills.. sauce.. 25 cents extra per packet. This restaurant showed me that they do the bare minimum for the customer. This is not how you get repeat business. This is why people like me leave bad reviews, albeit an honest review. Look elsewhere. Even Long John Silvers is WAY better, and that's not...

This is one of our favorite places in Elk Grove! Great food, great service, great price! We always get the fish and chips with a side of slaw. The fish is tender and flaky, the beer-batter coating crisp and lightly seasoned. The slaw is crunchy and slightly tangy, really a pleasure to eat next to the fish and fries.

••Update•• This joint has the Covid-19 response down cold. I give them 5 stars just for their mindfulness. No dining in, but call your order in and 10-15 minutes later it is ready to be picked up, or you can go in and order your food and they will bring it out to you as you wait in your car.

Hot, fresh, sizzling still, their mouth-watering fish is just as good taken home to be eaten. The service is top-notch- they are kind, polite, helpful and have hand-sanitizer on the counter. Great example of a mom and pop restaurant run right. The young lady working the counter was wonderful. She worked through the busy line, slid to help in the kitchen after clearing the line. She then did the rounds in the cafe checking on everyone and taking care of the customers. Meanwhile the lady I assume is the owner was rocking the kitchen knocking orders out. Once the orders were out she checked on every single customer. Someone had an issue with the fries and it was promptly and politely resolved. She even checked on everyone who has fries to make sure they were ok (nobody sent theirs back). Such a positive experience for everyone there. And the food was all even better than the customer service! I write this as we were craving fish and chips and felt compelled to share our experience as I wait for everyone to get their shoes on as we are out the door...
