Today was the second time I ordered from this restaurant. The food is delicious. I ordered through Postmates. I made a specific request for extra sauces and said I would pay for it. I have PLENTY of money and I am eagerly willing to pay for what I want. I received one small container of what I believe is cherry sauce and a small container of some kind of green curry sauce. Both really delicious. I called the restaurant directly to say I had placed an order and I asked for special sauces but did not receive extras. The employee said she packed it herself and she put in what comes with the order and what I got was right. She said they can’t fill the request for extra sauce through Postmates because customers have to pay for them first. I asked her what I needed to do in the future to get extra sauce delivered. She never really did answer that question and went back to telling me what I got was chutney and not a cherry sauce. Forgive me for asking simple questions, but I am trying to learn what these foods are. When I ordered for the first time the other day I decided I wanted to try something different each time as I wanted to expand my knowledge of different Indian foods. I do have a little knowledge of certain foods that I do like, but I am very open to trying different things, which was my quest. I wanted to ask her questions about the difference between chutney and the sauces that I received and every time I would try to speak she would cut me off and she would say “do I make myself clear?”, Do I make myself clear?” and before I could answer she would cut me off again! I kept asking her to please stop cutting me off and let me ask my question, but she would would. It and just kept talking over me. She was very short and impatient with me. At some point, she told me I have other customers that I have to help and I said well if you would let me finish asking my question and answer me this conversation would have been over by now. She was so rude to me, it was unbelievable! Having worked on the front line facing customers for years, I understand there are challenging people you must encounter from time to time. I was definitely NOT one of those people. I make a a point of being kind and patient for as long as I can when speaking to any person just doing their job, because I’ve been in their shoes. I can say in the over 30+years I have worked in customer service, I NEVER spoke to a customer that way! At the end if the call, I did tell her I’m not stupid and if she would stop flapping her jaws for a second and let me ask my questions, she could answer me and our conversation would have been be over by then. I was still trying to be nice but my voice was raised because I was truly flabbergasted! She ended up hanging up on ME! I had to walk away and not call back, shaking my head and saying unbelievable to myself. Because of this terrible customer experience, will NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. To the owners of Maharani Indian Restaurant: I am sorry, but your employee cost you a customer. And when one customer has a negative experience, it is a proven fact that that one customer will tell 12 potential customers. Those 12 potential customers will tell another 12 potential customers and so on and so on. So, that one negative experience I just had will significantly impact your business. I absolutely do NOT suggest firing your employee, but she sure has no business answering the telephone. She was too busy telling me what she thought I was asking without me ever fully asking my questions! I dint think I ever got to finish a sentence so how could she understand or know what I was asking?!? Oh, she did say in a snotty tone of voice, “I apologize if my English is bad, but how else can I explain it to you?” I told her her English was perfectly fine the problem was with her bad attitude and how rudely she was speaking to me. So she tried to play a race card on me, which has nothing to do with...

My first experience will be the last . When you enter this horrible place you must sit where they want and you can’t pick a table of your choice. There food is nasty which made me sick and I throw up many times. There were piece of nails in the rice when I showed it to the employee ,then instead of telling me sorry he start yelling at me that is why two of the customers who were sitting next to us left. They will not let you eat what you want ,but they will cut you a fat bill. The cleanliness of the restaurant is zero . The table are nasty and even sticky because of the dirt . The employees will follow you telling that don’t eat this and don’t eat that . This is a waste of money . And Sacramento county should inspect this dirty location. Don’t deserve a star , but it won’t let me...
Read moreI have had both take-out and dine-in experiences here. Ordering for dinner via phone, they will not pick up the phone until 5 p.m. However, the food will be ready when they say it will be ready. For dine-in, they do a great job managing customers' expectations, and they don't seem to promise anything that they can't deliver.
As for the food, I really enjoy the aloo gobi, as well as any of their vegetarian dishes. Unlike other Indian restaurants in the area, this place does not serve raw potatoes!
They also serve a variety of naan. Their "special" naan has dried fruit in it that makes a yummy side to savory dishes, or a modified dessert.
They have a variety of eggplant dishes that feature wonderfully spiced and seasoned vegetables that vegetarians will appreciate.
Overall, this is my favorite Indian restaurant...
