Raw Sushi Bar Lounge — Restaurant in Elk Grove

We’re happy to see Raw sushi finally opened. I checked few times on Yelp to see if it was open. Once the sign goes up, we locals get excited to see the grand opening.

I went on Friday night on a date with hubby while kids had martial arts Christmas party. Thanks to the martial arts school for doing parents night out. Here’s my experience, love the lightening, bar area, nice atmosphere inside and outside lounge area. We’re happy to see an upscale restaurant.

Drinks are amazing. I had lychee drink and it was delicious. My favorite was seeing the orchid on my flower. Off course, I’m girly so head over heels for this drink.

Let me tell you, they have fill bar ( including kendal Jenner tequila) and modern sushi such as sashimi, nigiri, specialty rolls, kitchen food and appetizers like ceviche, hamachi kama and fried oysters.

I loved the tuna cerviche which came with fresh chips.

Tons of parking here. I would suggest reservations if you don’t want to wait or can sit at the bar. If you don’t mind waiting then it’s fine.

I would recommend this place for date nights, girls/boys night out.

You must be thinking why did I reduce the stars when I really loved this place. Here are two reasons: It took long time to get the food out. At the end, we found out three chefs called in sick. I wish they had told us earlier. They gave our food to another table and 10 mins later brought food from their side to us. I saw them delivering the food because food came at the same time as our appetizers. They touched the food and bartender (girl) thought it was okay to still serve us. I refused. So she goes at the back and brings it back. It’s a big Noooooo. Please train your staffs not to serve eaten food. You can’t bring new plate within a minute after you said we have to wait since shortage of staffs.

Raw Sushi was one of those hyped-up experiences that did not even come close to living up to its reputation. The service was very slow. For example, in our party of seven, one member never received the correct order, and the wait time for food was extraordinarily long. I ordered a miso soup, but after waiting 30 minutes, I had to cancel it because it still hadn't arrived.

The sushi rolls all tasted the same, with no distinctive flavors, almost like the quality you'd expect at a buffet--nothing special or unique. The sashimi platter (15 pieces) was served on a bowl full of ice, with the ice sticking to the sashimi, making it difficult and unpleasant to eat, especially considering the price. The fish quality was subpar; I've had much better sashimi at smaller, less renowned places.

The drinks were overpriced--$28 for an Old Fashioned, which is quite steep. For parties of five or more, they automatically charge an 18% gratuity, and our table ended up paying over $100 in tips. Despite this, the service was severely lacking. The kitchen staff was slow, and the table service wasn't any better. We asked for small condiment plates four times, and they took about 20 minutes to arrive. During this time, we noticed our waitress laughing and chatting with a coworker instead of attending to our repeated requests.

Our total bill for seven people was around $500. For this amount, I expected much better service, food, and drinks.

Overall, I would give this place a 4 out of 10. The food and fish quality were okay at best, the service was horrible, the drinks were just average, and while the atmosphere and decor were nice, they don't make up for the...

What a wonderful experience! RAW is a beautiful restaurant with great food. The space itself is artfully designed. From the lobby waiting area, to the bar and lounge, the private dining spaces, and the main dining room— every single area is gorgeous and functional. We tried the restaurant on the spur of the moment on a Friday night. Though we didn’t have a reservation, we were seated within 10 minutes of our arrival.

Once seated in the dining room, we were taken care of by the kindest, most attentive server ever. I wish I would have gotten his name so I could give him proper credit! I really enjoyed how he talked us through every step of the dining experience; he was friendly and outgoing, knew the menu inside and out, and gave us thoughtful recommendations. We were so excited seeing all of the special rolls coming out from the sushi bar that we wanted to try them all; my husband and I each ordered two rolls (Dante’s Inferno & Roadkill for me, I forget which ones he ordered). Plus, we started with the Poke appetizer… it was way too much food, but we ate it all because everything was so delicious!

The quality of the fish is great. Actually, all of the ingredients seem to be premium grade! Yes, the prices are a little higher than other sushi places in town. But, I’m happy to pay it because the overall experience is so worth it. We can’t wait to go back, sit in the bar and lounge area, and have cocktails. I can imagine many date nights, girls nights, and celebrations being held at RAW!
