Having gotten carry out from this establishment on numerous occasions, I was absolutely shocked by my experience on Friday November 12, 2021. I called for a small carry out order for two people, and the person answering the phone immediately said there was a half hour wait. 1/2 hour. 30 minutes. I said that was fine, he asked what I wanted, and I gave him the small order. He then said it would be ready in an hour and a half. 90 minutes. I asked how the delay magically escalated from 30 to 90 minutes from the beginning of the phone call one minute before until then; he said “we have a lot of big orders“. Evidently, all those big orders came in between the time he picked up the phone and said there was a 30 minute wait tim, and the time he decided it was 90 minutes. I asked to speak the manager. He responded that he was the manager. For a manager of this location, I found this to be incredibly rude and unprofessional behavior without even the vague attempt of an explanation or pretense. I’d urge the owners of this chain to investigate the conduct of the manager on duty 11/12/21 pm . This individual obviously does not want my business, and obviously isn’t going to get it. For the rest of you folks, the foods decent: certainly better than Taco Bell, but also certainly not as good as any place on 16th St. If this totally rude and obnoxious manager can do this to my family, he’s certainly going to do it to yours at some point, sooner or later. My best advice would be to avoid the store and the chain that would hire a person like this manager (if he really was the manager) like the plague. Absolutely unacceptable. ADDENDUM: I love the owner's response, where he doesn't even bother to deny the rude and obnoxious behavior of his manager. Did you ever think about the possibility that maybe it would never would have happened if your manager didn't tell obvious lies on the phone about the wait time? Dig yourselves in a little...
Read moreI don't go to Taco Stop for the atmosphere, which I would describe as "ok, whatever, there are tables and a restroom, you can eat there."
I go for the food. Which thus far has been 100% excellent. You can get a completely gluten-free meal* simply by getting hard or soft corn shell tacos, and there are some other things that are gluten free as well - which is important for some folks. Wife and I have had several things there, all have been good, but she always circles back to corn soft shell tacos (carnitas, cilantro and onion) - I always circle back to chimichangas, usually chorizo, sometimes barbacoa. It's not that there's nothing else or the other stuff isn't good, it's just preference.
When I just need some go-to Mexican, this is the place. I'm usually carrying out, usually 5-10 minutes from placing order to walking out the door with food in hand.
I'd like to order online without setting up an account with yet another place to log in, where I'm charged an additional fee for the convenience. But that's not a deal-breaker, you can go there, walk up to the human, place your order using the power of speech, pay with your charge card, just like everywhere else.
*When I say completely gluten free, I'm not talking about stray molecules of gluten - there is gluten to be had in the place, flour tortillas exist there. So if you're Celiac, use caution, if you're just gluten sensitive you're fine.
By the way... The tastiest hot salsa in human history is too be had here. The red stuff. I don't find it all that hot, just tasty...
Read moreI absolutely love the food here, especially the beans and rice. I used to come here once a week, at least, many of the employees know me. I recently moved out of town, but was in town for a work event. I was really looking forward to picking up dinner to-go after my shift; a tostada, chips and guac, and a couple sides of rice/beans. Easy order. I walked in at 8:49pm, and the girl employee at the counter told me that they were closed. Closing time says 9:00, and I've ordered here many times with no problem. She refused to serve me or take my order telling me she needed time to clean up to be out of there by 9. The open sign was on still, there were 11 minutes left, and another customer's order had been taken moments before. I mentioned that and she said that was the last one of the night. I had tried to call in the order numerous times earlier so I could easily pick it up, but nobody answered. She had a couple of friends standing up at the counter and I suspect that was the reason she wanted to get out of there early. Honestly really frustrated and disappointed because I was looking forward to enjoying one of my old favorite...
