Okay, this place is the real deal and the food here is OUTSTANDING! And, I'm not gonna lie, I did have my reservations being that this restaurant is located on the second floor of an older Ramada Hotel and in a small town like Ely but honestly, I think I had one of the BEST steaks anywhere, bar none. On our recent visit, my wife got the filet mignon and I, the rib eye with and both were cooked to a perfect medium. Both of us got the brussel sprouts for a side and they were cooked to a delicious flaky char and with some kind of balsamic reduction and it was simply amazing. She got scalloped potatoes for a second side and I got the alfredo mac and they were just as good. As far as the dining area goes, it was nice, comfortable and welcoming and very much a place where you could consider it to be black tie affair but everyone there including us were in blue jeans and work shirts or casually dressed and nobody felt out of place. Service was top notch, fast and attentive and if you decide to give this a try, like you really should, be sure to read the front page of the menu as it'll tell you all about how this place got started and why the beef here is really so good. Enjoy this place and thank me later for recommending it...
Read moreOkay, this was terrific. If you find yourself in Ely, eat at JT's.
Our reservations were honored and we were seated pretty quickly. (Levi up front was managing a very busy Saturday evening really well--and was polite and respectful to every one coming and going.)
The wine list is simple, but good. The side dishes were fine--our salads were fresh and our sides were good. But the stars of this restaurant are the steaks. Because the ribeye is 1.5 inches thick, we couldn't resist. They weren't just thick; they were huge, cooked to perfection, and delicious. You come here for the steaks, and for good reason.
Our table service was managed by Payton. She did a terrific job. Everything we ordered was right, the pace of the meal was good, and she followed up several times to see how things were going (and to refill drink orders).
Again, it's clear JT's is rooted in its steaks--which apparently were a thing before they created this restaurant. Modestly presented in a basic (yet charming) setting, professional served, and delicious throughout, you simply cannot go wrong. And if Levi greets you at the front and Payton serves your meal, your experience will be complete. Highly...
Read moreThis is a tough review because I do enjoy this place depending on what I go in for. I have never been to the restaurant above. I have only been to the bar area.
The drinks are pretty good. They have a few beers on tap. The drink prices are decent in comparison with other bars/restaurants in town. The service in the bar is good and the bartenders are friendly and attentive.
I rated the food as two stars. This is because I have to send it back half the time because it is not cooked properly. I always order a medium well hamburger. It more often than not comes out as medium rare. I am done sending my food back and eating my meal in pieces. The same is true with the steaks. I always order my steak medium, and it often comes out rare or barely medium rare. I simply do not order steaks anymore, which is sad because it is a steakhouse.
The homemade fries are excellent.
The atmosphere is pretty good. It would be nicer if there were more than four seats at the bar. It would also be nicer if TVs were updated and more modern so sports could be watched more comfortably and with better...
