I had the chance to check out the grand opening of a new food joint inside the Bay Street Mall in Emeryville called "Saucy Asian". I found out about the event on Facebook and decided to stop by. For the grand opening, the first 100 people in line would be treated to 1 of their 3 signature bowls and the next 50 would receive free pot stickers. FREE you say- I'm in!
While standing in line, I met a couple of folks who'd already eaten here at the restaurants soft opening and since then. They gave great food recommendations which I'll leave below.
Andrew, the manager, came out to greet everyone and thank them for coming- it was such a cool vibe.
I ordered the Saucy Asian Bowl which comes with rice or mixed greens, japchae noodles, fresh slaw, kimchi, greens, carrots, fried shallots and gochujang aioli. You get a choice of a protein topper (in the form of either meat, seafood, tofu or mushrooms). I'm pescatarian so I added garlic shrimp for $2. The shallots were a little thick and fried a little too hard. PASS But the shrimp had a lot of flavor.
My Mom texted me while I was in line asking for me to pick something up for her. So I ordered the chicken wings and the kimchi fried rice. The chicken wings come in two flavors (sweet & spicy and spicy/garlic). I ordered the spicy and garlic for her. The kimchi fried rice comes with a poached egg.
On the way home, I had to stop and run an errand so the bag of food fell over- hence the not so pretty food pics. Now to what you're waiting for...the food review.
SAUCY ASIAN BOWL- 8/10- the flavor of the garlic shrimp was on point and I love kimchi so you can't go wrong. Also, they were NOT stingy with the shrimp at all which is a plus.
CHICKEN WINGS- They smelled amazing but I'm pescatarian- Mom gave them a 7.5/10 because she wanted the sweet and spicy flavor instead.
KIMCH FRIED RICE- Mom had been fasting so the rice was a little to much for her but I enjoyed it the next day.
The folks in line who have eaten here before made great suggestions like the Cali burrito, the Saucy Asian fries and the Bibimap. I will definitely come back to try out the fries and a few...
Read moreAbsolutely love this place! It’s a hidden gem that consistently delivers both in terms of flavor and service. From the moment you walk in, the staff are incredibly welcoming and attentive, they really go the extra mile to make sure you have a great dining experience.
The food is nothing short of outstanding. I’ve tried nearly everything on the menu at this point, and I can honestly say there hasn’t been a single item I didn’t enjoy. Every dish is packed with flavor, fresh ingredients, and a creative fusion of tastes that keep me coming back.
My top two go-to orders are the Cali Burrito with Bulgogi Beef and the Bimbap Bowl with Spicy Chicken. The Cali Burrito is bursting with savory, perfectly marinated beef; it’s hearty, satisfying, and incredibly tasty. The Bimbap Bowl is equally impressive, with tender, spicy chicken, a vibrant mix of vegetables, and that signature rice at the bottom that adds a perfect texture to every bite.
Whether you’re in the mood for something bold and spicy or something more comforting and classic, you really can’t go wrong here. The menu is well-balanced with options that suit all kinds of cravings. This spot has definitely become one of my regular go-to places, and I recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality food with friendly,...
Read moreI went on a girl’s day with my little sister and we decided to grab something before catching a movie. We settled on this place as it’s right next to the movie theater and personally I love fusion foods. The employee at the front was incredibly nice and attentive; he was fulfilling our requests before we even asked lol. Now on to the food. I ordered the Saucy Asian burrito with chicken and my sister ordered the Saucy Asian tacos with pork (I think). The tacos were really good and a nice level of spice. I didn’t really enjoy the burrito too much. It was a lot of sauce and it wasn’t spicy . I think if I had chosen a different protein it might have worked better, perhaps bulgogi. We also shared a Zippee, I can’t recall the flavor exactly as it is a seasonal one, but it was...
