UPDATE: did not receive partial refund like I was promised.
TLDR; service and food mediocre, many other places better than what you will be paying.
I'm not sure why this restaurant is rated so highly. It definitely may have been to the current circumstances with Covid since I have never been here before, but the food here was not on par with the prices they asked. For a $21 crab omelette, not only did they use frozen crab, the omelette was way too over cooked and there was a hair (picture attached for reference). Service was quite bad also - I had seen on their website and on Yelp that their menu included pasta. When I asked the server if there was pasta available since I did not see it on the lunch menu when we got there, he said he would send out the manager. The manager who came out proceeded to "explain" to me that whatever they had available was on the menu on the website and that I was mistaken. Additionally, when I explained to a second server who was taking our bill that we had found a hair and that we did not want credit for future dining, she proceeded to passively aggressively tell me that I should have told her earlier since now she would need to speak to her manager and there would be a redundancy on my card.
With the food, there were also issues. The fried chicken wings were great, I will admit, but nothing too special. The price for 5 wings was ok, $14. The burger lacked umami but the garlic fries served together with the burger was good, crispy and light. The crab omelette however was not as appetizing as the other items. The crab was frozen, and the egg was overcooked. My friends did enjoy the potatoes that came with the omelette, so I guess that is one redeeming quality for the dish.
Again, things may have been different due to the circumstances, but I really don't think this restaurant's food is as great as everyone...
Read moreThe atmosphere is very welcoming and cute. The parking lot is atrocious. The bar is gorgeous. The art, especially the prohibition pieces by the bathrooms, are fantastic. The food and service were disappointing at best. I took my sister out for her birthday and we had a phenomenal day (this was 4 hours round-trip driving for me to do, plus driving around oakland). This is where I selected to take her for dinner. We had the almond pesto fusili with jumbo shrimp, pork chop with applesauce and the foccacia.
The foccacia was barely warm as we ate. I fully expect a paid for bread served at a restaurant be fully warm.
The fusili was the most disappointing dish. It didn't have enough salt, the pesto was bland. We picked out the shrimp and returned the entire dish without a refund. The shrimp were not jumbo prawns.
The pork chop was good. The mashed potatoes were good. The broccolini was good. Nothing about it was wow.
We both got mocktails which are sold at $13 each. I got the spicy Margie while my sister got the whiskey. Mine was fine enough but hers was not drinkable. It was a comped.
The server was dry and not engaged. When she said happy birthday when we sat down, it was so hard to hear my sister didn't even hear it.
I was so looking forward to trying this place and the esthetic is definitely my jam but the food and service is terrible. I'm sure other things on the menu are delicious but im not willing to spend any more of my money here to find out.
I'd also like to point out that nothing besides a weak "happy birthday" was done for my sisters birthday. Not that I expected anything extravagant, but even the hair salon i took her to earlier gave her a tiny cupcake with a candle in it. A hair salon did better than...
Read moreMy family was excited to celebrate Mother’s Day at this quaint and rustic venue. Upon entering the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised with the cozy yet elegant ambiance. I sat down and tried amazing buffalo wings, crab dip with real sourdough bread and an amazing gin martini. I made a note to myself to come back with my husband for date night. After dining on their jalapeño wrapped prawns and a garden salad which was also extremely yummy my family continued to enjoy our cocktails with the amazing food telling stories of our youth, loved ones who are no longer with us. We had a beautiful time and the hours slipped away from us. After 3 hours the owner asked us to leave because he had another party waiting for the table , mind you this was after we had paid our bill which was over $400.00. I think instead of asking us to leave it would’ve been more hospitable to suggest we sit at the bar. It wasn’t as though they were losing money. Anyway we left and headed to the bureau where we ordered more cocktails and enjoyed each other’s company. I was prepared to bring my husband to the Old Town restaurant bar & grill for date night but I don’t want to be asked to leave if we aren’t finished dining and conversing so that they can meet their weekend profit margin! For this Old Town receives 2 stars. Go there for a quick bite to eat and then leave and head to a more socially friendly venue or dine there when it isn’t a major holiday. Maybe then you won’t be...
