STRICTLY A CUSTOMER SERVICE/DELIVERY REVIEW:

So the food here is actually quite excellent. When I want hummus, roasted eggplant, and falafel, this is a local go-to for delivery....UNTIL last night.

Last night I ordered through Seamless with an expected arrival time of 7:05 pm at the latest. At 7:30, I still had not received my order, so I called. The phone went straight to voicemail. At that point I called Seamless, but the wait time was extraordinarily long. My food ended up arriving at 7:55 pm. I was really annoyed at this point. Well, I figured, ok.... guess this will just have to be lunch for tomorrow. So I open the bag and search to make sure I got everything I ordered. If you know middle eastern food, you know that pita bread is pretty much mandatory to eat with this kind of food. Well, the restaurant forgot to put my pita in my bag.

I called the restaurant and spoke with their manager, Pedro. When I expressed my disappointment about how late the order was, he proceeded to give me a litany about why the food was late and told me that I should've ordered over the phone, NOT through Seamless, and I would've been that the food would be delayed. Seriously? I should've called? On top of that, when I asked them to deliver the pita from my order, he basically told me no. To resolve the issue, he "promised" me that next time I come in, he would provide me a free appetizer. Ok.... so I said, "can you email me stating that I'll have a free appetizer for my trouble next time I come in?" He then proceeds to reassure me that he's "not going anywhere" and that I'll get my appetizer and refused to email me this information.

I can afford the money for the appetizer......this is about principal. The restaurant messed up....TWICE. Almost a full hour late on my order with no call to me to let me know AND forgetting part of my meal. AND THEN promising something without me having any proof that some guy named "Pedro" promised me an appetizer. God forbid I go in there with my family 6 months from now and mention this guys name and my "free appetizer" and they refuse to give it to me and look like a leech trying to get a free appetizer.

Needless to say, I don't need Pedro's appetizer ... I won't be ordering from this place, take out or dine in. If I have to go through all this hassle for their screw up, I don't want to support...

I love any place that serves free bread, and the sliced garlic-honey pita bread they set down as soon as we sat down was one of the nicest and most delicious welcomes I've received from a restaurant.

The menu is tantalizing and there's plenty of familiar favorites along with a few new-to-me items that the server readily described when I asked questions. This time, I tried the pargiot sandwich. I had no previous conception of 'pargiot' but another reviewer had sung praises about this wonderfully marinated chicken thigh meat. Having tried it, I'm not convinced it's blow-your-mind good, but it was decently flavorful and tender. You can customize the salad type that goes in your sandwich, and I chose the Israeli salad, a blend of tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions. Mine felt a touch overstuffed since it was harder to taste the chicken and made my pita soggy quicker than I would have thought, but it's hard for me to ding points for generous servings.

Our server checked in on us regularly and even thought to inquire about any sesame allergies before setting down the tahini dip that comes with the welcome platter of bread. As the restaurant got full and our visit came up against a reservation, I appreciated how respectfully he asked for the table.

Speaking of reservations, it might be a good idea to make one for your visit, especially if you're thinking of coming for dinner. My friend and I came on a random Tuesday afternoon and this space completely filled up. There are also some outside tables available for possible spillover seating, but if your heart is set on coming here, call ahead.

Parking in Englewood is always tough, especially come mealtimes because there are so many restaurants here. Make sure you come laden with quarters for the older parking meters or have the ParkMobile app ready for the spots that allow...

The hummus is very good. Everything else was really bad. We ordered 4 portions of meat, what they call "shawarma", cuscus and some salads. Food for about 5 people for $200 (!!! I could go to an all-you-can-eat steak lunch for $40!) Other than the hummus, we didn't really finish anything else. The meat was cold when it got to us (10 minute delivery). Kofta kebab was so dense we could hardly cut it with a knife. The rice and fries that came with 4 portions of meat were bearly enough for 1 portion, and only gave us 2 pita bread. So cheap... The "shawarma" is realy sautéed chicken breast, very oily and waaaay too seasoned. Threw most of it away. It's really false advertising to be calling what we got "shawarma". The cuscus was the biggest fail though - $26 and we got a dish that was only half full (see image), and a little boiled veggies on the side. My daughter who loves cuscus, and only eats this, threw it out since it was dry and tasteless. The prices are outrageous for the amount and quality of the food they give. We will never order from this place again.

A Hidden Gem We Keep Coming Back To! My wife and I have been coming to Hummus Elite for many years, and it continues to be one of our absolute favorite spots. The service is always warm and welcoming—truly top-notch. The food is consistently delicious and freshly made every day, with love and care that really comes through in every bite. One of the things we enjoy most is the surprise daily special—it’s always something new and flavorful that keeps us excited to come back. What makes Hummus Elite extra special is that everything, including the desserts, is made in-house by the owner. That personal touch adds so much to the overall experience. It’s the perfect place for a comfortable night out that won’t break the bank. We highly, highly recommend it—definitely a top pick for anyone who appreciates great food and great service.
