My partner and I were so excited to try this place. Our excitement was quickly replaced with seething disappointment. We came when it opened at 11am and instead of being greeted with a welcome, or hello the server shouted "Two?". And proceeded to gesture vaguely at a table.
The server was cold and despondent. They barely acknowledged our table (we were 1 of 2) and when it came time to take our order. They came and passive aggressively stood there without a word waiting for us to order. It took a while for our water to come out. And we ordered coffee and beer at the same time. When the water was brought we were greeted with a snarky "we are working on the beverages". It was another wait before our drinks came and there was a fly on top of the beer.
We were very kind and patient. Having worked in the service industry I try to be understanding. However the cold service was only compounded on by the long wait for our food. We ordered the sampler plate to share. It was $58.99.
This wouldn't have been an issue if we didn't dig in to find the mashed potatoes were instant. They were gummy and tasted like a box. The red cabbage and sauerkraut likewise tasted canned. The spaetzle was greasy and unpleasant. The schnitzel was dry and tough. The bratwurst was ok, not bad really. The patty was also just ok. The mushroom gravy was thick and had no flavor, it was very reminiscent of packet gravy.
The atmosphere was modern, and ok. The bench I was sitting on has crumbs and was dirty.
Additionally, another table came in and had a way nicer greeting and service than us. I honestly wanted to cry by the end of it because I didn't know what we did wrong. I felt so uncomfortable. The server was unpleasant and disingenuous.
We will never go back. The total bill was $85. It was the first time in my life that I debated on whether or not to leave a tip. And it wasn't a good feeling to leave as little as we did. We were treated poorly and it reflected on the bill.
I just keep thinking, what did we do??
Anyway, don't go here. Go to Hoffbrau House! It might be gimmicky, but the food is good and the atmosphere is always fun. Plus, way better price point...
Read moreI've been coming here for years and could've swore I did a Yelp review before , but it's not showing up. So , let's do one now. I was stationed in Germany for 4 years , 1985 to 1989 when the Berlin Wall was still standing , and of course grew to love German Food and of course German Beer ( Bier ). Whenever I go to other places on vacation I even look for new German restaurants to try.
I've been in Vegas since 1991 and used to go to Alpine Village , Cafe Heidelberg , and even the Hofbrauhaus. Cafe Berlin is soooo much better than Hofbrauhaus and the prices are also better. The owners are from Cologne , Germany and the food has flavor , not bland like Hofbrauhaus. The owners and staff are friendly and the selection of foods is very good and also beer selection and desserts. I normally get the Jägerschnitzel which comes with Spaetzle and of course a good German beer. For dessert I like the Apfelstrudel ( Apple Strudel ) with cream and vanilla ice cream.
I've brought many of my co-workers here so they could try it and we normally will get a Wurst Plate and the Jägerschnitzel and an Appetizer Plate which comes with a Pretzel , Potato Pancakes , Onion Cheese Twisters , and some sauces , so we can share and they can try stuff they've never had. Everyone loves it and comes back usually asking me to come with them. I also would come almost every year with my son for my birthday.
At Octoberfest they have the special beers that come in. They also have Black Forest Cake , Cherry Strudel , and Blueberry Strudel. Of course the Apple Strudel is my favorite. I've had many different things on their menu. They also have a buffet once a month and I miss it every time ! I'm either working or I forget because it's the first Saturday of the month for about 4 hours. I need to set an alert on my phone or something. I would definitely recommend you make a reservation for the buffet if you plan to go.
All in all I really recommend you going to Cafe Berlin and if you've never had German Food then bring a friend and get different plates to share...
Read moreSince we've been wanting German food for awhile, we settled upon Cafe Berlin.
When we arrived it took 5 minutes to seat us. The restaurant had customers, but didn't look busy. When we were finally seated, we were given menus...and that's about it.
We sat there for 10 minutes and were essentially forgotten. We perused the menu and listened to other people's conversations. No water, no drink orders, nothing letting us know they knew we were there. When a sufficient time passed, we got up and left. We counted at least 3 "servers" who could have spoken to us as we were there or leaving but didn't. Further, I left my phone behind and my wife went in 5 minutes later to retrieve it...not one person said anything to her (although she did say some patrons looked at her apologetically).
Assomeone who has worked in restaurants, both front and back of the house, this was a huge fail on several levels. Further, this was the most negative "dining experience" we've ever had since we've been coming to or lived in Las Vegas. It's truly sad, because after reading many 4+ star reviews on multiple sites, we were very much looking forward to eating here.
One last thing: We went next door to another restaurant to eat. The server who seated us was outside smoking, saw us, and obviously recognized us. Not one word was said. Needless to say, you don't get a second chance to make a...
