I was there when reviewer "C Cioffi" (search under "newest" and his review is under mine) was in the store on January 6th, 2024. If you look at his review he complains about not being able to use the $100. There is a sign that CLEARLY states that the Fish Grill does not take anything over $20 and this man was aggressively mean to the management. Bullying her to take the $100 and then taking out his phone to make a video. After saying no many times she went to the back to call the corporate office to see what she can do. When she is doing this, another employee goes to the back and comes back with money to exchange the $100 for 5x $20 bills so he can pay for his meal (my guess is that management took the money from their safe box and gave it to the employee to exchange it while she was on the phone).
Even after that, this man continued to bully the manager saying she had employees who dealt with the situation and she was incompetent while stating his video is going to go viral. He also stated he was talking to the head owner of the company because that is what he does, he goes to the top to complain (his words). Then telling the other employees they should be management instead and giving her management advice all while talking aggressively. After paying for his food he slammed the buzzer down on the table and continued making negative videos while complaining to the staff and educating them on how to spot a real $100 bill. Then he gets up and complains that his food wasn't coming out fast enough and was arguing that his fish had not even been dropped yet (which it was) and the food was handed to him a few moments later.
When Mr. Cioffi states "what is this world coming to where United States currency is no longer acceptable payment", I hope he realizes some day that you shouldn't blame the company who puts up the policy but the people who create the fake money and try to use it. I understand it sucks that some establishments don't take anything over the $20 bill but after working in restaurants and retail, people do come in with counterfeit money.
In the end, man made me feel really uncomfortable while I waited for my food with my child but the employees keep a cool head and handled the whole situation well. The food was GREAT, it takes time to cook, so I understand the wait is a little long. The employees were amazing and the moment this man left, we apologized to the staff for dealing with it and told them they did a great job. First, their Customer Service who helped me was (Joselyn) one of their employee who was extremely helpful and nice. Their menu is pretty much straight forward and lots to offer and easy to pick your desire choices. I actually ordered the grilled Seabass ๐ with white rice ๐พ and olive oil tomatoes ๐ with Feta cheese. OMG, very satisfied with the dish because you can taste the freshness of the food and it hit my pallet just perfectly. Their prices $$ are actually normal and not too expensive which is an A+ for me. It won't hurt your wallet compared to other seafood restaurants...Second , their atmosphere was calm, cleaned, attentive, nice music ๐ถ and their patio was just right to enjoy the outside sun or even your dog is welcomed to accompany you at the patio unless you have a service dog then your allowed to be inside the restaurant with you. Third, their parking lot is endless and easy to parked. Luckily I was able to interact with the Supervisor (Mario) very knowledgeable and friendly. I am very selective about where I eat; I have always had positive experiences at CFG. However, this is the 2nd time, I ordered take out for my family at the Escondido location. The first time, the fish and chips were not done all the way through (when you cut open the fish, the batter was visibly raw and tasted raw, maybe the batter is too thick?). The two stars is mostly related to the poor service I received at the Escondido location at about 8:30-9:00 pm on 2/11/23. I explained my food allergies and specifications for my order (simple) and each time the female (appeared to communicate to staff with a managerial style) who processed my order, spoke in a condescending tone and was not accommodating/flexible. This was not my first time with simple dietary requests; requests I have made multiple times over the years without an issue. Each time I attempted to clearly communicate to her, she responded with multiple ways of saying "no." For example she responded with, "we don't do that or we follow the recipes and so should other locations, we don't have salt and pepper in our kitchen, etc." She presented with a defensive stance at which time I verbalized it was not my intent to upset her or elicit a defensive response.
