I was in the mood for catfish nuggets and wings so I looked up whatâs local in Evanston while visiting a client. The Evanston Chicken Shack came up so I thought I would give it a try after reading several great reviews that outweighed the negative. Iâve had some great catfish nugget and wing dinners so I couldnât wait to compare. Unfortunately I have to give a low review because the ECS was just mediocre at best. Iâll start with the positives. Luckily during my visit it wasnât packed so the food came out fast and hot. The staff wasnât rude but I wouldnât exactly call them super friendly either. So now we move on to the negatives. The menu seemed to be all over the place so unless you know exactly what you want it could take a minute. I usually donât pay more than $9 to $11 for a catfish and wing dinner. Today I paid $13.57. That would have been ok but my portion was less than any of the other places I frequent. The fries had ZERO seasoning so just pretty flavorless. Your food is packed in a box with the fries on top so that is the first thing you will taste. I grabbed a catfish nugget and the taste wasnât bad, just not mouthwatering. I ordered mild sauce on the side for my wings. All I can say is that I have never tasted a sauce this bad. It was thick like BBQ but with a very strange taste. Most people wonât eat the bread but if you do like yours it will be smashed and buried at the bottom of the pile. To sum things up, this is NOT the best chicken in Chicago and if it is in Evanston then they better pray nobody opens up a JJâs Fish or...

My wife and I are still new to the area and we have a few places we like to eat because we get disappointed with the lack of flavors. I decided to try this place out because of the high reviews. I should have know something was how when I placed a pick up order.
We I was speaking to the lady on the phone everything was fine until she dismisses my question on what is the most popular sauce as this is my first time ordering here. She does not acknowledge my question and just leaves me waiting so I select the last sauce.
Upon arrival it is busy, and my order should have been ready by the time I got there. I was told on the phone it would be ready in 15 mins. I immediately pay once I get there but my order wasn't given to me until 22 minutes later. Numerous people came in and grabbed their order so I do not understand why my order took 37 mins.
Once getting home and eating the food both my wife and I were dissatisfied. The mashed potato's and gravy are whatever. Literally store bought would have been better and I would have gotten more. The spaghetti had no flavor, and my wife loves spaghetti so she was super disappointed. The chicken was juicy but had no flavor and the oil they used must be old because we both were sick to our stomach. I can get better chicken at KFC and not feel sick afterwards.
The only thing that was decent was the biscuits but that is decent. Anyone can make them so that is sad.
I do not recommend this place to anyone. Please go elsewhere and save your money...
Read moreI had this place once before maybe twice after having drinks. I had the chicken and it was pretty good but now I am a pescetarian and gave them another shot. Bad idea. First let me state this place is falsely advertising their seafood portions I bought their combo which consisted of 2pc tilapia and shrimp. So u was expecting 2 pieces of Tilapia fillets and shrimp. What they do is take 1 tilapia fillet and cut it in half and call it a 2pc tilapia fillet. That is definitely false advertisement. Will be reporting them to the city of Evanston tomorrow because I drove from Chicago and by the time I saw what they'd done they were already closed. Their sauce taste like it is poured from a bottle maybe kc masterpiece or something along those lines very salty. The biscuits were not good, a waste of another 2.18. Fries are soggy and now that I think about it the fish was kind of undercooked as well. I would recommend a Chicago place like sharks or whatever you can find on Howard street including the fish keg before I recommend the place for seafood and the fish keg is the worst place to get seafood from in Chicago...
