My wife and I selected Cavanaugh's for our 28th wedding anniversary for the atmosphere and food. We both ordered Filets and to share two sides of Scalloped Potatoes and the Brussels Sprouts. After splitting the potatoes and sprouts, she discovered her steak was not hot and the sprouts were cold. We let our server know that the food was not hot and she sent her plate back to be made over. Her steak and Sprouts came back after I was actually done eating, plus her new plate was minus the scalloped potatoes that were on her plate. As I watched her eat, and as we try to have conversation, we both noticed that there was dead silence in the room. The piano player only played 2 songs at a time and then took a break. During the break, there was no music whatsoever, leaving us to hear conversations across the room and as well vacuuming. We could not make any conversation to one another because we knew everyone would be able to hear us. Finally we said something to our waitress and after the piano player came back and did two more songs and a long pause then some music finally started for the last 15 minutes while we had dessert. In all fairness, the manager did come to our table and apologized for the food being lukewarm. He did give us a discount on our bill and we did receive 2 complimentary desserts, which was admirable for the manager to do that. However, our Anniversary meal was an extreme disappointment. We've gone to Cavanaugh's several times in the past and always had a great meal, great service and great ambiance. That's why we returned again this year. Hoping that the management will take note and see that this type of experience shouldn't become the norm in one of Evansville's first-class...
Read morePoorly managed and rude staff. We could not be more disappointed in a "high end" restaurant. We had a 7:15 reservation on a Saturday night(Anniversary dinner) and we arrived a little early, around 7. The place was almost empty, other than a few people at the bar, so we told the hostess if our table was ready we would go ahead and sit down. She instructed that it was not ready and to check back at 7:15, reminder-the place was EMPTY. We went to the bar and ordered drinks, bartenders were less than friendly and attentive, in fact they were slow and more concerned with what the latest gossip was than serving us. We quickly checked back with the hostess at 7:15 and to our surprise our table was not ready, reminder- the place was EMPTY and we had a RESERVATION. She said she would come get us at the bar when a table was available. We went back to the bar, and giving them the benefit of doubt thought maybe they didn't have enough wait staff to sit any more tables. Were we ever wrong...we watched for the next 45 minutes as table after table was sat, people just walking in and sitting down right away. At 8, 45 minutes past our RESERVATION, we asked the hostess if our table was ready yet and she informed us it was not and that she would let us know when it was! Seriously?! You just sat a dozen tables for people that came in after us! We left and will NEVER be back! The manager offered a table right away and a gift certificate, but at that point our night was ruined. Stay away from this poorly run steakhouse, you will be...
Read moreIt was my wife's 40th birthday so I wanted to take her someplace nice. Unfortunately the food quality was below that of an average family restaurant. It took us slightly less than an hour from the time we sat down to get our food, which was fine since we weren't in a rush. But when I finally received my steak it was LITERALLY HALF FAT! I didn't want to send it back and wait even longer. I ordered medium well and this was barely cooked to medium rare (it was even cold in some spots). The meat was so tough to cut I shook the table. Is this the quality of meat you get at a premium price? The menu is a la carte, so I added broccoli and loaded baked potato. The broccoli was bland, and the potato was as good as I expected (hard to mess that up). My wife ordered the scallops and a salad. The salad was nothing special, but still good. And while the scallops were good, she only received 6 of them! The manager of the restaurant (at least I think that's who he was) kept checking on the table behind us, but nobody else. So I turned around to see why. The woman had on a dress that had cleavage shoved up to here. Ahhh, now I get it! He literally walked past us (and everyone else) 4 TIMES to check on this couple!
The bottom line is that if you charge a premium price, you should deliver premium service and at least above average food quality. I understand that you cannot always control the quality of food delivered by the vendor. But this was definitely not worth the price you pay. I cannot...
