Insulting, disgusting and absolutely hands down the WORST experience I've ever had as a customer.[

VEGANS BEWARE THEY WILL SERVE YOU MEAT.

My wife and I ate here last weekend, the day before the eclipse. They were clearly overwhelmed and had not planned ahead for the influx of traffic. That can be forgiven, what can't be forgiven is having ordered two impossible burgers, and receiving one impossible and one REAL BURGER (this was after several attempts to even get the order right).

My wife's order had to be sent back 4 times because we asked for no onions and sauces on the side. This was obviously too difficult for the kitchen to handle as they repeatedly brought out the wrong order. When we asked the server if the kitchen was making a new burger or simply scraping the toppings off the wrong one she was visibly shaken, and managed a less than reassuring "I think it will be a new burger". It came back 1 minute later and was clearly not a new burger.

As soon as my wife took a bite it was obvious they'd screwed up. The grease and gristle of a real beef patty was unmistakable. I received an impossible burger on my order and I could even compare the two. The edges were uneven and crumbling, the way a real ground beef patty looks when smashed down with a spatula. Anyone who has eaten an impossible burger will know that it is nothing like a real burger, the beet juice and coconut oil are not even close to the real thing.

Now, the best case scenario is that when I ask to speak to the manager, I receive a heartfelt apology and my meal is comped. Imagine my frustration when the manager proceeds to argue with me over the burger itself, insisting that it is an impossible burger, despite the chunks of solid, visceral animal fat clearly visible in the patty. Despite this I was told several times that I was mistaken. I asked if they used ground Impossible or pre-formed patties, the answer was pre-formed. Yet the burger patty we received was clearly not a preformed patty. Then I was asked if I was "from around here" as though I should know better than to question their burger patties. The manager said "a lot of people say we have the best vegan burgers". At this point I couldn't keep arguing with a brick wall. I asked for the bill and it was comped except for the one beer which they claimed they weren't allowed to comp. But we couldn't leave before the manager offered to send us away "with a salad for the road".

Insulting, disgusting and absolutely hands down the WORST experience I've ever had...

I’ve been to Bru Burger in Evansville probably a dozen or more times since they opened, most recently March 1st of this year. I have never had an issue before other than cold fries and they always fix that if they’re cold. Today myself and my wife ordered two burgers and she got a side of fries. I went to the restroom and came back to the table as the food had arrived. I look down at the burgers and noticed Walmart/Sam’s Club Great value package style buns. The type you have to separate from each other. The bun wasn’t buttered on the top and they didn’t even try to hide it. I made a complaint and the servers didn’t seem to know what I was talking about. Manager (whom I was told was Tyler) came and asked how he can fix it. He acknowledged that the buns were different and said that they had just ran out and just switched over to the cheap buns. He asked if we wanted something different and I told him that if I knew before hand I would’ve looked for something else on the menu. My wife correctly stated that it’s a Burger restaurant and she didn’t come for other items. I then stated she was the right with that take. Instead of comping the meal and at least offering for us to keep the food after trying to fool us with the buns, he takes the food to the back and I’m assuming throws it away. I was given my birthday dessert and some cheap appetizer card for next time. My wife decided to tell the manager what he did I wrong about not offering us the food. Tyler states he felt like it would’ve been a “slap in the face” if he offered the food that we said wasn’t right because of the buns. I then stated the slap in the face was serving us burgers with the Great Value buns and you were going to charge me full price for the items. After his statement I was done. Funny thing is Walmart actually sells the Brioche style shiny buns so I don’t know why they even tried to sell the Great Value style buns cold on the burger. Even having the nerve to put the toothpick in there was crazy. CRG group I think you’re better...

BRU Burger Bar seems to do everything exceptionally well.

My wife and I were in town from Nashville, TN to visit the casino. We wanted try somewhere we hadn’t been for lunch, so we decided on this place due to the close proximity. Once we arrived, I appreciated the free, off street parking (not sure how common that is in Evansville). As we approached the front entrance, we marveled at the beautifully preserved exterior of an old Greyhound bus station turned craft burger bar.

Once inside, we immediately noticed the cool, hip atmosphere and aesthetic of the interior of the restaurant. We received a warm welcome and opted for bar seating for a front row seat to watch the NFL playoff games. Our bartender greeted us and began preparing our drinks. She was very knowledgeable regarding the menu, and twice offered to assist us in making our selections.

We ultimately decided on the melt your face burger with onion rings, and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with fries. While everything tasted great, the chicken sandwich was (somewhat surprisingly) where the food really shined. If you’ve had Nashville hot chicken and you like the intense heat level commonly associated with it, temper your expectations on that front. Despite that, this chicken breast was seasoned well, while also being incredibly tender and juicy. The onion rings were an enormous portion (probably an entire onion) and for only $4, were well worth the cost.

Overall, we walked away very satisfied with our lunch spot. From the food, the service, the aesthetic and even the presentation of your meal, BRU really nails it all. We look forward to...

In the years since writing this review I have yet to encounter someone who had an actual beef burger at this burger restaurant that lived up to expectations. Great atmosphere, a good place to go if you want to go somewhere that pretends Evansville is a "real city." Lunch rush is an adventure in business casual upper-middle-class clientele. We had an impeccable server with a near telepathic ability to detect when drinks needed to be refreshed. The food was very well prepared/presented and other reviews seem to be focusing on something entirely out of line for a place like Bru Burger: fries. [Context: At the time of writing this review, I had only ordered a chicken sandwich from BRU burger and had yet to encounter their undercooked Impossible patty or the underwhelming beef burger. The most common criticism of BRU at the time was people complaining at the fry situation] The idea of fries automatically coming with a burger/hot sandwich stems from smaller restaurants/diners back in the day wanting to give the impression you were getting a lot of food for your money by stuffing you full of salt, oil, and starch. The food at BB stands perfectly well on its own, and tacking on $2 to have fries with a sandwich is perfectly reasonable for the quality of food you're receiving.

It was so cool to walk into this old Greyhound Bus Station converted into this awesome burger restaurant. This was my first visit here after my fellow flight attendant, who was working a 4 day sequence w/ me raved about how good the gourmet style burgers were here. I have to agree. I really enjoyed the many burger options and other menu options such as salads, starters, drinks, and desserts. I ended up ordering the turkey burger dish but replaced the patty w/ a medium well lamb patty w/ the carrot slaw (note has a kick of spice) and opted for lettuce instead of a bun per keto style and side bacon and pear jam. I also added a side of fruit that came w/ a lil' upcharge. My fellow FA Nick ordered the viking farms lamb burger w/ fries served w/ the Bru Burger Bar's house ketchup. It was super yummy. After the burger and fruit, I remembered the bread pudding on the menu that caught my attention. It was the peach white chocolate bread pudding. It was delicious, but to really bring out the flavors of the peaches and bread pudding sprinkling a lil' salt to liven up the dish and bring a world of flavor front and center. Definitely recommend stopping by for a good gourmet burger and fries w/ the house special ketchup.

First Time! Was seated and waited in instantly. It was early around 4:30. Quaint little spot in the old greyhound bus station. Food was really great! Large servings! I had one pretzel and it was big enough for three. Then I had the black bean burger. Although I’m vegan I ordered it anyway. They only had one vegan burger option, the Impossible burger, not sure if the buns were vegan, they did not look or taste like it. Not a fan of the impossible burger! It’s terrible and made from isolates. If I could say anything Dutch the impossible burger and make a scratch made vegan option burger. So many in house options, why waste your time with the impossible burger. Real food real ingredients made scratch brings more business. Also vegan foods should have stated if buns are vegan as well. Another thing, do you use separate grills for your vegetarian and vegan foods? I’ll be back as it was a great experience, I’ll hope to see more vegan friendly options soon. Thanks for clearing up my question about the buns! We love your honesty!! We’ve already been back and brought more mouths to feed! See again soon! If you haven’t been here, I highly recommend you do.
