Cafe Diedrich — Restaurant in Everett

First off I would like to say that the Baristas here are absolutely AMAZING!!! Suzette, and Hannah are so lovely and accommodating. The coffee is always so delicious! I love a good quiet atmosphere to drink my coffee, and read. Diedrick is that place. It’s so comfortable I find myself staying a bit too long. I highly recommend coming in for your morning pick-me- up! Oh, last but not least, the cinnamon rolls are to DIE FOR!!!! I just want to Add, I have witnessed so many people coming in to “charge” their phones. This is a private business, that values their paying customers. I’m sorry, but paying customers are not going to want to sit in an establishment where people are packing and unpacking their homes, talking to themselves, picking their skin. Paying $5 for a coffee or bagel keeps that out.

I visited here to charge my phone while waiting for the bus. As an African-American woman, I was unfortunately subjected to questioning about my phone's battery and ability to use Apple Pay for a $5 minimum purchase in order to use their electricity. It felt intrusive, especially because I intended to be a paying customer after charging. While businesses have the right to set spending minimums, it's concerning when such policies create an atmosphere that discourages anyone who might not be able to afford a larger purchase. It made me wonder if this is why there were only two other customers in the cafe at the time.
