Modern Bagel Cafe — Restaurant in Fair Lawn

This place all depends on who you get making your food. I’ve been coming here consistently for the last 3 years and I’ve had amazing sandwiches, and not so great ones. If you’re looking for a place to give you the “ice cream scoop” of cream cheese , this is not the place. PROS: If you get one of the workers that has been there for a while you’re gonna get a great sandwich. They listen, they’re quick and they want to move the line as fast as possible. The bagels are hot and fresh. It does not matter how long or insane your order is, they’re on it. You’re not going to be there long, and you will never hear them making fun or talking smack about anybody. You’re gonna be in and out with a nice hot fresh meal. CONS: If you get a staff member that is seasonal/ part time / just doesn’t want to be there… you’re going to say you’re entire order and then they will say “oh let me write it down” go to the back , rummage for pen and paper, slowly make you repeat your whole order while they write it down then take their time making it while talking about previous customers as the line builds out the door. My spouse placed an order over the phone, was told it will be 15 min . He came and waited with nobody addressing him so he just stood there, waiting. The staff member with the glasses and long brown pony tail then proceeded to speak about him saying “ where is this a-hole” I suppose because she wanted to go home, and he was standing… right there. He mentioned this to the owner who basically said “ he didn’t hear it” so needless to say , my hub will not ever go here again. So knocking a few stars off for inconsistency with service. Overall, modern bagel is “okay” . It gets the job done and it’s in a great location so it’s very busy almost always. However, there are def better bagel spots...

Stop by to get some breakfast for my baby and I. When I walked in, it was hot as heck in there, even hotter than outside and it’s July. None of the workers greeted me mind you there was no line. They were all cooking and making food for two guys before me. I asked to order and the lady said she will be there in a moment with an attitude. They all completely ignored me for the next 5 minutes walking back and forth. Then I saw the manager in the back come to the front and I told him that I was waiting to order my food. He asked me what I needed and got it for me right away. Even gave me the bagel for my son with no charge. Personally I don’t think I will be coming back here again. Mainly because being in the food industry for 10 years, service is key ( even if the food isn’t all that great) I will still come back and try something different because they treated me well. But this place will be a no no for me...

Every single time I’ve gone here they have made my order wrong. I went in today for the 5th time asking for my normal order without cheese. Yet every single time, I’m given cheese & then given a new bagel order WITH ANOTHER THING NOT RIGHT. I’ve tried to enjoy my time getting bagels from here but MBC has failed to write down their orders bc clearly they can’t remember them right considering the orders I receive are always wrong. Always feel like I’ve wasting money going here bc I can never enjoy my meal. Either never toasted or contains cheese which I can’t eat. Also like to say that when my order was redone, it was not only rushed but the Taylor ham is literally raw & not fully cooked. Bagel also wasn’t toasted like I asked.
