Bovine Bakery — Restaurant in Fairfax

I hate to leave bad reviews, but holy cow we had a terrible experience here today. Got in line a little before 1:45, about 4 parties back. They close at 2 pm. Things were moving slowly, but we figured no big deal, standard for covid and small town living. At 2:00 on the DOT, when we were the second party in line, with another 3-4 parties who had joined the queue before 2 pm behind us, they yelled out the window “we’re closed!” They pulled their chalk board inside, closed the service window, and when we/others in line asked if we could just order, said “our hours are posted online and on signage during our off hours.” It’s one thing to stick hard and fast to your closing time (although IMO still strange to not serve the people who got in line before you close), but to watch us wait for 15+ minutes and not give us a heads up that you may not get to everyone before you close...just bizarre. Wonder what they did with all the leftover pastries they could...

I was in Point Reyes earlier today and was walking by Bovine Bakery. I asked the lady who was cleaning the counter outside if I could buy a Cookie. She said they were closed for the day and they will reopen tomorrow at 8:00 am. I told her I lived far away. She looked at me and said "wait a minute " ! she went inside and came with a big smile on her face and a small bag in her hand that had a Chocolate Chip cookie . I wanted to pay for it, but she wouldn't take my money. I insisted , she simply said " It's on me ". I have to say , I hardly ever eat sweets or anything that has sugar , but their cookies and pastries are absolutely delicious . Bridget , your kindness and generosity made my day . People like you are rare in today's world ! I will always drive for an hour and half from where I live just to buy one of your delicious cookies. THANK YOU .. THANK YOU...

Giving this average review because it was more or less an average bakery experience. The drip coffee is dark roast, so if that’s your thing no problems there but I like medium full bodied and was a bit disappointed. The savory scone was surprisingly bland. My 2yo would not share her sugar cookie so I’m assuming it was excellent according to her taste 🤣. The berry crumble/cobbler was delicious in terms of taste, though the crumble on top was a little too uniform and underbaked, as were some of the berries inside, so texture wasn’t quite ideal.
