Calandra's Italian & French Bakery — Restaurant in Fairfield

I ordered a red velvet cake from Sandra's bakery in Fairfield nj. The cake was going to a 69th special birthday of my my for July 26th. A Saturday that I took off both days on the weekend that I don't get paid for, but I'll do it for 21 great years of marriage. They totally messed up my cake when I picked up on that Saturday to take it to P.A. our new retirement home. When the cake was cut, everyone made jokes and asked if it was a white velvet cake, that fed at least 25 people. They was so dissatisfied that they told me contact the bakery and let them know , since I've ordered a red velvet cake previously at another location and took it to a birthday celebration in Livingston nj, at a meddettarian restaurant. Np. And my daughter in law was the person that put me on after ordering from them several times. I called and was ask to send pics of the cake cut, which I sent before and after. As well as telling them Noone liked the cake. Therefore more than half was thrown away. That means that they probably gave my cake to someone else. Now, to make this story shorter, I've spoken to many of managers, such as Freddy twice, Jenny, who didn't want to bother the general manager as well as others. Freddy offered a 20.00 coupon for my next purchase. Absolutely not. Too spend more money when I should be compensated with an apology and probably a free gift as a loyal customer. 1 manager finally reached the general manager (Tom Gencarelli) and reached a solution, since he didn't want to speak with me directly. And since I paid with cash I wanted my cash back. They only offered putting it on a card, that ididnt use. I told them maybe sometime this weekend I could come into the store for my refund starting Friday and beyond. Another woman supervisor called me and said that I will not be getting a cash refund since I didn't do it the night of the party, after I explained that the general manager sent word to another manager and that manager promised to share the word with all managers on site. Bottom line, I called today after work and spoke with manager Jenny and he finally agreed to give him 5 to 15 mins to reach the General manager and call me back because he couldn't give me his number. I didn't receive a call and once again I had to make a phone call to speak with the manager who is always busy until I tell the employee that I'm going to social media and tell my entire story. We'll this manager didn't give me his name and said that manager Freddy left and overtaken the conversation and told me that I had a week ago to satisfy but I didn't come in on Friday. I was trying to explain to him that my wife eldest uncle of 98 yrs passed away and on Friday I had to drive to Queens ny, and then the funeral and burial for a soldier was in long Island, but he wouldn't listen. This is the 4th time I buy from here. I am really disappointed that they dont have ready available cakes that are not filled with 3 inches of cream topping. The fruit filling does not go all the way to the end and the white cream topping is so overbearing. It took so long to just wipe it off. The previous cake we got was a cheese cake chocolate moose. The cheese cake was so dense. The only cake that was really good was the raspberry chocolate cake.

We need a cake that has fake or imitation vanilla extract to be religious safe to eat it. We also need a cake that does not have this much sugar. We made a custom order cake this time but we really did not enjoy jt because we had to remove all the icing before eating it.

The icing went inside od the cake too. The fruit filling should go all the way to the end or seal it with cake.

For the money spent for 5 dollars of ingredients to spent $40+ on a cake this small and not organic is really a waste of money.

I remember 20 years ago. The cakes were completely different taste like my grandmother made them. Now it’s commercialized and the fillings come from an aluminum can and the cake has 6000 ingredients vs 3-10 ingredients at most.

The place looks beautiful and the staff are nice and friendly always. The place is very clean and they used their millions they made over the years to beautify the place.

They need to have basic cakes for 20-30 dollars 10 inch double layer no icing and real fruit fillings with no or low sugar and few ingredients.

Please direct me to those cakes Because asking the staff left them like a deer in headlights.

Good luck to you all. The masses are happy with the cakes and thats what important for the bottom line. To cater to a few with their dietary needs wont make you profits you need using real ingredients we understand.
