I would give 0 if I could. Manager couldn’t have been worse. He sat my friend and I, telling us he’d be our server. 20 minutes later our server came over and had no idea we were in his section, with no knowledge of the menu or how to help with gluten allergies. He had to go to the manager several times to ask questions and would give excuses why he didn’t know instead of asking and confirming the food was safe for our consumption when told it was for serious reasons. When it took 20 minutes for our drinks (in a near empty restaurant) I requested to speak to the manager after a server I flagged down gave us a series of excuses about how the bartender was out when she was clearly behind the bar on her phone. The manager gave me a slew of excuses why the service was so slow for an empty restaurant with 2 visible to- go orders, and why he was ignoring us this entire time despite being in full view of us not being attended to. Unfortunately, the service only got worse with our server and the manager never checked on us again. The dining experience ended with a heated exchange between the manager and server telling me how I was wrong for his mistakes (when I have many years of experience in all forms of food service and positions), after the manager tried completely ignoring me and leaving it to the server to deal with the issues that he caused due to lack of communication or direction. The manager started making a barrage of personal attacks at me claiming that I was here for a free meal, when I have ample means to support myself and would only go out with full intention to tip my server well. I was insulted over and over while I was waiting for the manager to adjust the price on the handheld toast he continued for over 5 minutes. Then the server had the audacity of claiming I was giving them trouble “because I was white” insinuating that this was a racially motivated attack. This is not only insulting to my character but to my heritage and personal character and beliefs. He also only said this because the manager allowed him to continuously chime in instead of caring about customers. At this point, the manager tried to correct his server's implication by immediately chiming in that he would completely comp our meal. Nobody deserves to be treated this way. I tried standing up for myself, and should've left within the first 20 minutes. I understand this now because service like this is never worth it. I hope the manager realizes soon that this action will not work out for him in the long run, as this is the 3rd negative lunch review for...
Read moreI already went in detail about the quality of the food in my review their Norwalk location, but in summary; ramen is okay but absurdly salty (and it's not because "it's like that in Japan"). Spring rolls were good, but way overpriced. The service here is what sets this establishment apart, and it's definitely not in a good way. The hostess is inefficient and unapologetically rude when they mess up the "first come, first serve" order of arrivals. But if your patience managed to get you beyond that, you'll be seated and served by the most distant and rude waiters and waitresses I've ever encountered. They act like they're doing you a favor when they're taking your order, and trust me, you're going to need to ask several times in order to get their attention. My advice: bring a police whistle. Then after taking your order, you'll be left waiting for nearly an hour just for some ramen. If you dare ask them what is taking so long, you'll be met with a stone cold stare without any utterance of an apology. They even go as far as blaming you for arriving during their busy hours... The word to describe the staff isn't surly, because at least surly would imply that there is a desire to increase efficiency at the expense of friendliness. This is just pure laziness and idiocy. And to think that maybe 4 years ago I never would have thought that I'd be writing this… mecha noodle bar has had a long and hard fall from grace. It's unlikely that they'd ever seek to regain my patronage given their anti-consumer policies that they've since established, but even if they did, I would still think 10 times before making the mistake...
Read moreNever go to this mecha noodle bar.go to the new haven one. This one i went here for the first time,i waited to be seated, the food was good it was my first time here so i didnt think it would be that pricy but it was all fine.i tipped 15 percent since i just didnt have the funds.and my check wasnt that expensive (like 17 dollars) since i was just trying it out for the first time.i thought everything was fine UNTIL me and my friends payed and tried to leave. We started walking torwards the door and the lady who was our waitress stood infront of it with the check book.as if she was trying not to let us pass.she said "you didnt tip", i said "ya we tipped", and she responded with "only a few dollars, thats not tip.was the service bad?" and i said "no,it is just our first time here".and she wouldnt move from the door.there was no sign on the doors saying tip has to be 20 percent or more or anything so i didnt think it was an issue.and to everyone else who was seated it looks like she is keeping us from leaving cuz we didnt pay or something.the lady who took our names and seated us,just gave her a look as if she knew she wasnt supoose to be blocking us in,but didnt say anything.the lady wouldnt move aside until we gave her 2 more dollars for the tip.and then when we left she told us to not come back .(mind u,i was the only one that tipped cash,my friends who had separate checks payed with card). Ive never been so embarrased.if i knew that place gets like that when people dont tip enough,i wouldnt have...
