We had a party of 7. It was on Thursday, the night before a huge art festival weekend began so that may have had something to do with our experience. I ordered an appetizer which was based on mozzarella, tomato and prosciutto. The waitress came out and said that they only had enough for one but two of us had ordered it. So my friend said "you take it!" So I did. When it came out it was evident that they didn't have enough for one either. It was a $10 app and it had no more than 1 Tablespoon of mozzarella (probably less), 2 half slices of a medium sized tomato and 1 yellow cherry tomato cut in half and 3 pieces of rolled up prosciutto on it and something like balsamic vinegar drizzled on it. It was so sparse that we all (on my end of the table) did a double take - not believing what we were seeing. I wish I had taken a photo since it was one of those things I would like to remember as "one of the worst!" No one was terribly impressed that night with their food - not just me! And I would never go back! It's hard to understand these positive reviews on here! Also, there were a lot of empty tables in there which seems to speak volume's about the place considering it was such a big night in Fairhope as compared to the place we went on Friday night where the place was packed and the...
Read moreGood food but lackluster service spoiled the party! Let me start by saying that I've eaten at Fairhope Inn 2x in the past month and while the food was very good, the servers weren't the friendliest - not to say there aren't some wonderful servers at the restaurant, I've just never experienced them for a meal. However, knowing their reputation for good food and good venue space, we planned a 90th birthday celebration and the owner was cordial and helpful with planning the menu. When the 20+ guests arrived for the party, it quickly became clear that there was a staff shortage. One person serving 25 people just doesn't cut it. When I approached the manager on duty to let him know my frustration, he informed me that two people had called in sick and he would be helping out - that was all he said. He was curt, rude and seemed very unsympathetic to my concerns. I assume that he was helping behind the scenes because I never saw him serve food or drinks to any of our guests. While I'm sure the server that was assigned to us was doing her best, I was appalled that she served almost every guest their meal BEFORE serving the guest of honor. I know the poor girl was overwhelmed so I hate to be too critical but while the food was good, the service was...
Read moreThe Inn has been tastefully renovated, but it has lost its charm. We were greeted by an envelope on the counter containing our keys and instructions for the TV and Wi-Fi. Personnel were present but made no effort to engage us in conversation. Other were welcomed with their envelopes taped to the front door. We were dismayed to find that coffee making facilities had been removed in favor of an enhanced décor. The prime interest of the new management appears to be the restaurant and special events to the detriment of Inn guests. At various times when the restaurant was not in operation the hallway doors were closed leaving the guests with only the stairs and their rooms. Additionally, there was no room set aside for guest to relax in, and the tables outside only appeared on the last day of our five night stay. The one saving grace was the southern hospitality shown to us by Ms. Mary, a long time employee, who provided us with an excellent breakfast every morning. Her kindness and understanding was much appreciated. It is a great shame that this once friendly establishment has become...
