Read moreShort Version: Overprice average tasting food, reservations only, long wait, no printed menu with prices(4 ppl $94 and $114 with $20 tip), left feeling scammed, BEAUTIFUL VIEW.
We were pretty disappointed with our experience. The huevos rancheros were great, the pancakes were thick, heavy, and well flavored but they had the texture of actual cake. The omelette was acceptable, but was flat and had two eggs and a lot of veggies and no cheese or meat iside. These were also served with a meat side of our choice. The food was quality but the flavor was lacking for three out of four of us. I asked to taste my friends' food so these are a mix of all of our thoughts.
The RED FLAGS should have gone up when they said they had a verbal menu. That means that you have to listen to a menu given by the waiter and then choose. We still needed the menu repeated when they came back to take our order and we decided to do it auction style. If he said something we wanted, we would stop him and say we wanted that. Not a huge deal(please read the end)
We got our food about an hour later, and Gladys told us that the food was cooked to order(as all restaurants do) so it would be a while. They only take reservations so Gladys personally worked us in. In the meantime, Gladys offered us a fruit salad that had fruit from her own garden so we didn't starve while waiting. She asked us if we would like that and we said yes.
Here is the issue, we asked for the check and it was taking a long time, we asked someone else and nothing, asked a third time, and while we waited, I told my three friends, "We have no idea how much this will cost because we didn't get a menu". I was right, with no written menu, our bill for four breakfasts, three coffees, a juice and a soda(one of us ordered two drinks) was $94. They did nothing wrong, but I wasn't prepared for the cost. I happily pay for tasty, quality food all of the time(check my review history), but we just left feeling like we overpaid and the fruit bowl that sounded free wasn't, it was $12. GO FOR...
Read moreI was referred to this breakfast spot by my sister, who raved about the pancakes and said the food was fresh. When we arrived, we immediately noticed how non-accommodating the parking was, especially for my handicapped father. Accessibility was a major issue.
Once we made it up to the rooftop, we were greeted by the owner and seated right away. (Note: reservations are required, and wait times may vary.) Shortly after sitting down, my father asked the host for a coffee, and she rudely told him that everything had to be done in a certain order. After dismissing him, she gave a presentation about a fruit salad and mentioned that everything was grown in her backyard—without asking any of us if we had allergies. My sister is allergic to pineapple, which was a concern.
When it came time to look at the menu, I was disappointed. There weren’t many options for someone like me who doesn’t eat eggs. I ordered the coco banana pancakes and a side of bacon. The pancakes came two to a plate, and I shared them with my boyfriend. Unfortunately, they were dry and underwhelming. The bacon was overly crispy and served in a disappointingly small portion.
When my sister asked for water, the host/owner told her she’s not the server and my sister had to ask one of the servers for water. Then, when coffee was served, they poured whole milk without asking if anyone had dietary preferences. My sister is lactose intolerant, and she was served coffee with whole milk without warning.
As a first-time visitor, I would never return. To top it all off, we were surprised with a $15 charge for the fruit salad, which we had assumed was complimentary. Unless you enjoy snooty service and unexpected charges, this place is not worth your time. The service was poor, it wasn’t accessible, and the prices were...
