The good-bad- and ugly....
It's been 4 months since our trip in December but I just now finally leave the review for them.
The good: we loved everything about the tour itself. Reason why we chose this tour place is because of the boat tour, we have 2 toddlers with us and can't do Kayaking. Turns out it was a great decision, I didn't want to deal with mosquitoes while slowly managing thru the dark water tunnel. Riding on the boat was a breeze and out kiddoes enjoyed it so much. Our tour guide was great, he talked to us about everything in the forest and the bioluminescent, showed us the big termite on the tree, which to me it was very interesting to see....He said the mango leaves is very salty and we did try to taste one of the leaves but it wasn't salty as I expected (not a bad thing or anything, it's just a comment :) ). The bay was a wonderful sight to see
The bad: I wish they would say that renting car to drive there isn't that bad as the street was so easy to manage and is very similar to driving in the State. If they had told us that, we would have rented the car and would HAVE NOT led to the ugly I'm Abt to share next LoL.....They told us to arrange the drive before hand, because after the tour is done, it will be late and it is hard to find the Uber from the area, which is true and make sense....After the tour, we ended up renting car the next day and drove all over the other side of the island ourselves, and had no trouble doing so.
The ugly: now here is the ugly I wanted to share, that left a very bad taste in our mouth even months after the trip every time we think about it..... When I saw they said "remember to arrange the car first", I emailed them to ask if they have any contact to recommend. They gave me 2 numbers. The 1st person responded with the price very quickly while the 2nd number responded later, and wasn't answering my question Abt the price but asking where I stayed . I didn't like that so of course I went with the 1st contact...Her name is Sandy. Right as soon as we got on the car, she started recommending all these fancy restaurants to go, some of them even her friend restaurant (cuz she called them directly to their cell to ask if they was open). It sounded iffy to me so I Google all the places she recommended, I didn't like any of those so I said I don't want to go any of those places. She immediately gave me the attitude that I can sense it in the air. Then when we arrived at the park near Bio Tour (cuz we went early), she told me 'by the way, all other customers ALWAY TREATED her dinner because she had to wait us really long and hadn't had dinner and long drive blah blah blah' ... I don't mind for it but when she put it that way, it makes me feel obligated and that I owned her. Then she waited in the car watching us play at the park (my kids did enjoy the playground there), as soon as we walked into the restaurant across the park, she came out to the car immediately (no need for anyone to invite), Sat herself with us, order drink and food very comfortable, like she doesn't care if I say anything or not....Now remember earlier I told her she tried to get us to go to one of the fancy restaurants, that a dish cost about $40-50? If I was to listen to her advice, I would have paid extrax $70 to treat her a fancy dinner (include drink) ......So just be aware of her, and Bio Island, please either don't recommend her to people, or tell her to change her attitude ! I just hate it when she SHOULD HAVE SAID THAT FROM BEGINNING WHEN I TEXTED HER, NOT TRYING TO PUT ME IN A SITUATION WHERE I SOUND LIKE A BAD GUYS if I refuse to treat her.
Oh, and she would tell you to go super early because of traffic, recommend to stop here and there blah blah blah to visit/site seeing, we went early but not as early as she told us to... When we passed by those those places she recommended, she guited us because we didn't listen to her "see I told you to go here but u didn't listen..." and was like that the entire drive.... THE 2 hours ROUND TRIP WITH HER WAS A PAIN ,...
Read moreAccessing the BioIsland location was fairly easy and not crowded at all. We went early October at 9 pm. Everything was fairly clean and we were able to get some drinks at the small restaurant next door while we waited for our tour to start. All of the staff were really friendly and accommodating. There were 2 different boats at the same time with only 2 spots left on each (we booked the night before the tour). When we arrived, it wasn’t an issue at all for our group of 4 adults to ride together in the same boat. Marcos and K were our guide and boat captain. They did a really great job of making us feel safe and comfortable all while really enjoying the experience. Marcos gives a fantastic tour. I mentioned to him that it really reminded me of the Jungle Cruise ride of Disneyland (the way in which he talks very lively and clearly with lots of jokes sprinkled in). He’s very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. We were debating between taking a kayak tour and this one and I’m so glad we chose the latter. As much as I love kayaking, I really enjoyed being able to ride in the boat where I could actually hear the guide and take in all the views without having to worry about other kayakers bumping into me. Also, getting to wear what I wanted (a dress and sandals) without getting wet or trekking anywhere was an added bonus. The bioluminescence in the lagoon was spectacular. Splashing your hands in and still being able to see the little plankton on your hands light up was super rad. Also, the various iguanas and foliage etc, were super neat as well. I didn’t include a picture of the bioluminescence because it was difficult to capture with my iPhone but I did get great videos under the moonlight. Overall, I’m very happy with my stress free and enjoyable experience. I would definitely return to Bio Island in the future and bring my...
Read moreMy group of 3 went on this tour Monday June 19th. The directions were a little confusing because the Google maps location stops a bit shy of the actual place and you can't see the business from the street. The actual meeting place is located in what is called 'Kayak Village' which was a circular plaza that had a wall going around it. There was restroom facilities there located in the tall blue building in the center of the plaza, but they could have been a bit cleaner (this of course isn't owned by Bio Island, but just a heads-up). Our tour guide was fantastic- hilarious and informative. He pointed out all sorts of interesting things from the various trees to the animals, including huge iguanas that were sleeping on branches directly over our heads. The boat ride to the actual lagoon took a bit of time, but I enjoyed learning about the local nature and wildlife. Taking a boat was definitely the way to go. The night we went the currents were so strong in the river leading to the bay, that even the boat had issues at times, meanwhile the kayaks we passed seemed to not even be able to move. There were quite a few comments from kayakers that they wished they had taken the boat too ;) The bio bay itself was quite cool, but be prepared that it will not be nearly as vibrant as the pictures online show, those are definitely photoshopped. We spend maybe 20-25 minutes in the actual lagoon but I don't think it would have been necessary to stay any longer. I will also add that no one on our boat was able to get a good picture on their phones or cameras because of the darkness. Definitely better just to be present and enjoy the moment. I also noted that the lack of light pollution in the bay made the starry sky absolutely brilliant. Make sure to take a second to look up. Finally, bring bug spray! Cool experience, would definitely go with...
