Was Laguna Grande worth it? ABSOLUTELY!! Would I do it with this tour company again? Probably not!! Overall, it was a decent first time experience.
Book this tour early! I tried to book 4-3 days before a most of other tour companies were fully booked. This one still had opening so I ended up booking with them.
Pros: 1) Laguna Grande was gorgeous! If you can go without a tour group then I would highly recommend that. 2) Kayaks were good. Life jacket was provided and fitted by the guides in the tour. Demo was good. 3) Although some of the guides were showing attitude others were not. There was a mom and kid, who was having difficulty with kayaking. This guide attached his kayak to theirs and rowed them most of the tour, which was nice.
Cons: 1) It was very crowded and disorganized!! There were too many companies and too many people going through the narrow mangrove channel to get to Laguna Grande in darkness. Some people being first time kayakers made things worse. This was very frustrating because it was a mess... kayaks bumping into each other, paddles hitting people, people hitting the low hanging mangrove branches, etc. This is what happens when companies try to make as much money instead of focusing on the quality of the tours. 2) Very slow!! The guy checking us in was extremely slow. We were just waiting even after the check in. 3) Restroom is limited! There was long line to restrooms, which has like 2-3 stalls. So if your companies leaves on time, then you might not get the time to use the restroom. This company was not punctual so it helped us I guess. 4) Attitude is not appreciated! Once at the bay, all the kayaks had to come together so they can put a tarp over your head to see the plankton better. The instructions were not clear so the group was a little confused and holding onto each other's kayak in the wrong area. The main guide was definitely showing attitude instead of calmly correcting their mistakes. 5) If you are claustrophobic, this will be a problem! One you are in the main area you will be required to bring your kayak right not to other kayaks and put a long tarp over your head. So everyone will be under the same tarp for a good 5-8mins. It's cool experience and you get to see the plankton very clearly but if you don't like to be that close to people and in a close environment you might not enjoy the...
Read moreDon’t listen to the negative reviews. This is a must do when visiting. I was a little skeptical because of some of the negative reviews, but this was the best experience I’ve had on my trip so far! I am a beginner kayaker and I found navigating between the mangroves at night to be pretty easy. It’s not completely dark as there is moonlight and lights from the city so you can still see where you’re going and it’s really not as narrow as some reviews say there is enough space to navigate without crashing. No one in our group fell over although a few did bump into the mangroves but I would say that’s a users error lol. It’s also not like a full on crash you can just push yourself away from them it’s not that serious and it’s very much worth it. The kayaks have red lights on the front and back so you can easily stay with and follow your group. The water is 2-4 feet deep through the mangrove area and leads out to the lagoon which is absolutely beautiful. Be ready to paddle and if you have at least one strong paddler with you it’ll go smoothly. Once you reach the destination, that’s when the magic happens! Come during the summer to get peak bioluminescence visibility, but even under the tarp it was still so amazing! One of the best experiences I’ve ever had period. I recommend the later tour as well as it’s darker and we could see the bioluminescence going back through the mangroves! Don’t be afraid to get a water proof case and bring your phone to get some great shots I wish I brought mine your phone will be fine. The tour guide Michael was so funny, welcoming and made us feel safe and comfortable. He even recommended some good food places for us to try. Michael made the experience by going above and beyond! Angel our other tour guide also made sure we were safe and provided an excellent time for us. This is a once in a lifetime experience!...

This tour was one of the things we were most looking forward to for our vacation, however it became one of the most disappointing parts of our vacation instead. Upon arrival, there was insufficient parking in the lot, as they have several kayaking tours going out within the same hours of operation. Make sure you arrive with plenty of time so you can find a spot.
After checking in for our tour, we stood around waiting for about 45 minutes before the tour guides brought us to the back of the lot for orientation. There were over 30 people in our group, which equalled about 20 kayaks in total going out ranging from beginners to more experienced kayakers. This turned out to be entirely too many kayaks! The directions were to stay in a single file line, but people were speeding up and knocking into each other - we felt like we were in bumper cars.
Then in the lagoon the guides gave a short explanation of what makes the glowing blue color - which we still could not see. They then gave us a black tarp to drape over our heads across several kayaks and told us to splash the water onto our legs in the kayak in order to see the bioluminescence. What!? With the dirty tarp over our heads, it was so hot and humid, and it was almost claustrophobic. But you couldn't move the tarp off of yourself because the people on either side of you were still holding it down. It was a very uncomfortable experience and you still only saw the glowing blue for a couple of seconds.
And after all of that, you still had to kayak back to the starting point. This turned into another round of bumper kayaks as people knocked into each other and caused more chaos. The tour guides did nothing to stop people from knocking into each other either.
Overall it was not a pleasant experience. I would not recommend using...
