Clipper Restaurant — Restaurant in Fall River

I brought my wife and her parents who had just arrived from California two hours earlier. This was, in a nutshell, an awful Tuesday night dinner experience with bland, poorly-prepared food and a dishonest waiter who ripped us off. Where to begin?

-The waiter acted like he was doing us a big favor by seating us at 8:10, even though hours show a 9pm close both online and on location.

-Per the menu, all dinner entrees come with a choice of two sides, but the waiter wouldn’t let us choose, clearly just wanting to get us in & out as quickly as possible. We asked for the advertised choice, but he casually glossed it over and said that our dishes all came with specific sides. My father-in-law didn’t even get a side.

-Waiter told us we had to pay for bottled water because they “had a problem with the pipes.” He charged us $18 for 6 tiny bottles of water, an obvious cash-grab scam. They wouldn’t be able to operate a kitchen/restaurant if they had a problem with their pipes, this was just pure and simple dishonesty. The waiter actually had the nerve to tell us that “some restaurants charge $2.50 for tap water.” What a joke.

-The food was terrible. Everything was overcooked and extremely bland, with no love or pride. The side salads that were forced upon my wife and her mother as sides were wilted and slimy. My chicken & shrimp were both overcooked and dry. My wife’s smelts were bland & over-fried. My mother-in-law’s whole Bass was overcooked and dry. My father-in-law’s Codfish dish had no flavor whatsoever. Awful food all around, they should be ashamed to serve it to people!

-The waiter never checked in during the meal to ask if everything was going well. He was slouched over the bar across the other side of the restaurant the entire time we were eating with his back to us.

-When we received the bill, we immediately noticed that four different items were marked up 1-$2 higher than the prices listed on the menu, which totaled another $6 added to the bottom line. We called the waiter over who fluffed the whole thing off, changed nothing and said “I’ll make it up to you the next time.” I should have insisted that he correct the errors, but at that point we all just wanted to get out of that place as quickly as possible.

There obviously won’t be a “next time,” we will never go back to this place and we won’t send our friends. We just moved to the area and had high hopes for The Clipper. Instead, we were served a truly awful meal and were essentially stolen from by a dishonest waiter. So incredibly...

I Ordered 3 dinners for take out .We got Two surf and turfs and one fish and chip. $85.00 . We got home and we were missing the shrimp. We called the restaurant and the cook forgot to add the shrimp. The manager said that we could come back and he would give us double the shrimp. We drove from Freetown back to Fall River for the shrimp. Once we got home we had 6 tiny overcooked (rubber)shrimp( probably the original shrimp cooked twice, and there was a pork bone inside the Mozambique sauce. I will never be going back to this place ! I normally don't complain!, I just don't go back ,but this place is no good. Stay away! bad customer service !terrible food !small portions...

Beyond nasty!! Chicken wasnt even cooked properly, it looked so gross I couldn't attempt to try it. There was no Mozambique sauce, even though that's the plate I ordered....the fries were ok and so was the rice which is the only reason for I'm giving them 1 star,(and because you can't give zero stars)but how hard it is to make fries and rice?? Oh and they didnt give bread even though it was ordered....so a chicken Mozambique plate with raw, pink, slimy chicken, no sauce, and no bread! Worst Portuguese place in the world, now I know why people stay clear from this place and stay with the other great Portuguese places...
