I was told by an employee to give an honest review good or bad. They are a new place and need to know what they can do better. Let's rewind It's Valentine's Night. Our reservations were made well over 40 days prior I was super excited to be going to this beautiful new establishment. I had seen posts and pics of the decor and the unique sharable dishes, especially the sliced prime with cream sauce.I had set the bar high and was expecting the management and service to be top notch. I love to try new places. I love food. I love to support small businesses. This is a true honest review I have read some with similar feedback from other dates and some way to made up pretty. The hostess was awesome. He welcomed me. Told me I was dressed with Valentine's glam. Friendly and polite. He then went in with They are behind and there would be a long wait for tables, but the bar had seating immediately. No worries we like to sit at the bar. Now begins where to seat us at the bar. He tells me to follow him we start walking to the bar toward end stools. The manager tells him no as she tells another couple to move to the other end of bar as she is now putting up reserve signs at the 4 corner stools. Never gave him or us direction just walking around in circles. I can already see everyone is unorganized and all looked confused. He apologized several times and finally he sat us at the middle of the bar. The rearranging of stools begins. One too many. We now are sitting on top of one another. No purse hooks that I could feel but could barely move so sat on it. The bartender trying to make the it better saying its tight but you guys made it work. She then starts complaining to staff she has too many orders. Making wrong drinks and literally making one after another. The manager has her going left and right but wasn't really helping her. After several minutes the bartender welcomed us and took our drink order. Fast forward all the food coming out was blah. Messy plating. Everything was thrown down.from the board. The ravioli and lobster dry overcooked. My prime was well done( asked for med rare) it had a hit of sauce. Roasted potatoes and asparagus forgotten. Looking over at others food looked dried also. I wanted to return my steak but didn't feel like waiting. Had waited long enough. The corner 4 stools were saved for friends who were waited on first before others that been waiting Champagne was shared between them and manger. That is a No No. Owners should never drink at the bar especially on a busy night with an entire unorganized staff. A few other mishaps happen with other guests but that's not my story to share. Was anyone checking plates as they came out. No quality control. I made the best of my night. After all its Valentine's Day and with my love. He enjoyed his Espresso Martin and I liked my mocktail. The dessert was just store bought chocolate mouse cake. We paid our 200.00 bill and left disappointed. The Hype was definitely not experienced. Will return at some point. Hopefully more...
Read moreHello! =) I must start by saying The Counting House is truly a gorgeous, well-decorated establishment in the heart of Fall River. There's truly nothing else like it's appearance. I was so excited to write a positive review. Unfortunately, due to Valentine's day, that is not possible. Last night marked by 2nd visit, and for the second time in a row, we were seated in the cute, but very uncomfortably low cushioned chairs. If you go here- don't sit here to eat. The tables are so tiny and the plates take up your entire space. Additionally, it was so busy, my knees were pressed into the table all night, so I could make room for other customers who bumped the back of my chair and head all evening. It's such a small space that I don't know how they'd fix this, but it is a big flaw that has 2ce now negatively affected my night.
There was a stressful, tense air the entirety of the evening! The servers, bartenders, and the two managers, Drew and Tina seemed completely unable to cope with the hustle, as the restaurant was full, with more tables arriving every minuet.
When we got our drinks, they were delicious! We are not big drinkers whatsoever, but we actually got a third round- though that first and third round took exceptionally long to arrive. =( Our food though, took a very long time, even with the amount of people, and like I said- it barely fit on our THREE small tables the manager brought over.
I was reading FB reviews last night and saw a couple VERY scathing ones... I was going to talk about them in this review but turns out, they've all been deleted??? I am not a fan of deleting reviews, no matter how negative, because that's criticism that should be accounted for and made public. Bad on their social media marketer for doing that.
While the night was not a total loss, we were there for much longer than anticipated, which caused us to be late to our next destination. I would still say the food is excellent and the drinks were remarkable, we got 3 rounds LOL. But from the people on the side of us, the reviews I saw, and the tenseness of what should have been a romantic, calm evening, we will be waiting quite a long time before we consider returning. Hopefully, in the coming months they iron out...
Read moreThis is a prefect example of "Form over Function". The Counting House is all atmosphere, but completely impractical.
Went with some friends for both dinner and "brunch" which I will get to... Do NOT go thinking this is a restaurant it's a lounge/bar, but what's weird is they have a HUGE extensive food menu, which prompts you to order a bunch of food which is good, but there no table space.
They only have about 9 small tables, so when we went, we had to sit in their low lounge chairs to eat. Totally impractical. Tiny tables that are purely aesthetical and fit like 1 drink tops. And you're sitting, hunched over, trying to eat, basically on top of the people closest to you.
I know they're new but they have like 8 drinks. The peppermint one was terribly balanced. No drinks are themed to the "Counting house" or "speakeasy". In fact, the "speakeasy" aesthetic is nowhere to be found.
Then we went on a Sunday "Brunch" which is, for some reason, Noon-5pm? And they Do NOT have a brunch menu. It's their dinner menu. Total waste of time. Brunch should be brunch food- not steak, Caesar salad, octopus and mushrooms.
The bathroom signs are impossible to see in the low lighting- my friend walked into the men's room by accident.
The bar doesn't have hooks for your purse, or anywhere to put your coats.
And on top of it all, they play club-like music. Why? I thought this was a 1920's speakeasy vibe? I would guess we'd hear Frank Sinatra, 20's swing, Ella Fitzgerald, or jazz- not music I'd hear on my 57 year-old mom's girls night playlist.
The staff was incredibly pleasant and well put together. They all seemed talented and knowledgeable enough...The lady manager (i think that's what she was) spent the night at the bar drinking and talking to people while...
