I am not one to complain.... but I left this restaurant knowing I would be leaving a one star review. Right away my forearm stuck to table and I noticed the table was still quite dirty. I smelled the table and it smelled just like old fish. My glass of water also smelled like old fish, like the water they used to clean the glass was from a fish tank. Then my food came. My California roll has fish eggs in it, something I have never seen in a California roll. Also the crab in my cali roll was imitation. Imitation meat, really? My spicy tuna looked inedible and it look like they put the tuna in a blender and seasoned it with red paste. The salmon was extremely fatty and also smelled strongly of fish. The seaweed looked old and was much chewier than it should’ve been. I ate two pieces of sushi, paid for my meal and left the other 16 pieces of the plate. I’ve had better sushi from Harris tetter..... i have never left a review like this before but this place made me feel compelled to. maybe all these “local guides” reviewing this place have lower standards than me but this place...

The first time we went after the reopening, there was a large group taking up 1/3 of the now 9 tables, and we waited a long time to get service, place an order, and finally eat. Pretty much once our food came, the waitress no longer stopped by - I waited the whole hour and a half/two hours we were there for a water refill (even asked once) and didn't get one. We thought about ordering more sushi, but at the abysmal pace of service, we just left as soon as the check came.
I still hold out hope that it will get better (hence 3 stars) but I'm saddened that Koi Koi is no longer as good as it used to be.
Old review: Koi Koi is a great, very reasonably priced sushi place, and is definitely the best in Falls Church. There is a huge selection of sushi and I haven't had anything but excellent rolls every time I've gone. Plus, their sashimi plates...
Read moreWe have been on a gym flow lately (new year new me bullsheet) so whenever I'm looking for a clean undisrupted protein I am looking for sashimi. Upon walking in we were kindly greeted by the hostess and taken to our seats at the bar. We advised her of our state of hunger and she obliged. Our salmon sashimi was brought out with haste and devoured in a similar fashion. All we could think about was wow that was fresh sashimi. It melted in our mouths with ease making it easier to order more. We soon realized that plain salmon sashimi was not going to fill us up so we order the "roll of torch" it comes with spicy salmon, avocado and torched salmon on the outside. This gives it a nice smokey flavor that isn't usually expected when eating...
