The manager is unprofessional and the owner is even worse. Only plus side to this establishment was the amazing waitress, who I believe can do much better than this establishment.
Let me start by saying I am not familiar with restaurant regulations/laws required by the state, nor do I feel the need to since I do not plan on opening a restaurant any time soon. That is solely the restaurant's responsibility to enforce.
With that being mentioned, I visited Falmouth with my friend who brought along his dog (a small, quiet dog at that). We were looking for a restaurant that did not mind us having the dog, and the first restaurant we checked with was Liam Maguire's Irish Pub. I walked in to ask the hostess if my friend with a dog could come in as well, she asked if it was a service dog and I said "no, is that fine?" to which she responded yes. I waved my friend inside and she brought us to our table.
We ordered our drinks and our food, and in about 15 minutes we got our food. After a couple minutes of eating (and about 30 minutes of being inside the restaurant, with the dog), we get approached by the manager who asks us if we have papers for the service dog, to which I responded "we informed the hostess that it was not a service dog and she said it was fine". The manager then says "she said you said it was a service dog and if it's not then it needs to go outside due to health codes". My friend said no problem and he proceeded to go outside with his dog. I told her for the inconvenience, there's no way he's paying for the food he got to have one bite out of (it's not our fault we were misinformed and allowed to come in, only for my friend to be kicked out).
Long story short, the manager got the owner involved, who proceeded to yell at us for not wanting to pay for my friends food (saying things like she's going to call the cops, insulting me by asking if this is how my mother raised me). She even had the nerve to call us liars about telling the hostess the dog was not a service dog. After this ridiculous argument, that could have been professionally handled by knocking out my friends food off our bill, she kicked us out. She also attempted to use the hostess' age (16) as an excuse for why she let us in, but I think it's clear it's not my responsibility to tell your employee to double-check with your boss if it's okay.
This entire experience was the most unprofessional restaurant experience I have ever had, and it was absolutely embarrassing. I feel bad for the waitress who was doing an exceptional job. Even the people eating next to us informed us that they wouldn't be coming back after seeing that...
Read moreGreat place. Made reservation for eight people at dinnertime. We were seated quickly and the service was attentive and friendly. Though busy they were able to accommodate several large parties including a party of 20 for a birthday. In addition to the table service there was a busy bar which I could not see because of the throng of customers three deep, boisterous and all very happy.
Variety of different diets and tastes at the table, no complaints. Fish and chips, wings, dinner salad, were all reported as very good, but the biggest hit was the petit filet. Two in our party ordered this, many got to taste all were impressed.
Served seared from the kitchen with a very hot stone slab. The diner (with some instructions for first-time customers) heats all or pieces of the filet to the desired doneness. The 2+ inch filet (7 oz I think) was cut deeply so the guest can easily see how well done each part is and allowing each cut or fork full to be finished on the hot stone to the perfect temperature.
The atmosphere was exactly what we expected. Large selection of beer and drink specials, appetizers and a tempting carrot cake which I will have try next time. Unrushed, we finished before the live music started but am sure it was fitting and welcome by all those still dining or enjoying a beer with friends at the bar.
Falmouth is of course a tourist friendly town and most eateries have no trouble filling tables at dinnertime. Most do a nice job and add to Falmouth's reputation as destination for fun, shopping and fine dining. Liam's customers seem to also include locals who know the best places.
Everyone in our group from age 10 to 66 were pleased and we will certainly make Liam's a must visit everytime we come to the cape. If you are planning a trip to the cape or just going for a drive stop and enjoy Liam's. You will...
Read moreBeen going to Liam's for well over 15 years on our summer vacations to beautiful Falmouth. Today my wife and I stopped in for lunch. I ordered a draft Sam Adams Summer Ale along with our sandwiches while my wife ordered the Strongbow cider they had on tap. My beer was definitely "bad" and I had it replaced with a Harpoon IPA which still tasted a little "off" but drinkable. Withing twenty minutes of finishing our lunches both my wife and I experienced terrible cramps and diarrhea almost simultaneously. Years of experience makes me believe that it was from soap residue in our glasses. Feeling that this was not right (paying to be made ill), I actually got in my car and returned to Liam's to explain what had happened (realizing that mistakes can occur with any business) and ask them to properly address my billing to address this situation. I was first directed to a young woman bartender/manager who wanted absolutely nothing to do with the matter who then turned the matter over to a young man named Rory who expressed no concern and offered me no accommodation relating to my bad experience. Advice to Liam - don't let kids run your place. 15 years of goodwill, positive recommendations and future patronage now lost because of the complete lack of common courtesy and professionalism I experienced today...
