We just stayed at the Palmer Inn for 4 nights this past weekend and we loved our stay there. I will elaborate on the reasons why, but if you are looking for the quick answer, the positives of this inn are numerous and outnumber the weaknesses. I'd say the two biggest strengths of the Palmer Inn are the location and the hospitality of the hosts.
It's a 5 minute walk to main street Falmouth, where you'll find plenty of dinning options and the typical assortment of boutique gift shops. Essentially next door, but in the opposite direction, is a bicycle shop. We rented from there to go biking on the Shining sea Bikeway, which you can access within 2 minutes of biking (merely a couple streets away). Although there is coffee with breakfast, and also constantly available in dining area of the Inn, if you want/need something to go, there is a coffee shop called Coffee Obsession just across the street from the bike shop.
Also notable, the Inn is within walking distance from one lot that provides access to a ferry to Marth'as vineyard, or a ~5 minute drive to the Island Queen parking and ferry to Martha's vineyard. One minute further from the Island Queen (so 6 minutes from the Inn) is Falmouth heights beach, which is a smaller sized beach but enjoyable and not over-crowded. The waves are not strong, there is a food truck on the beach, a couple of bar options across the street, and Sopranos Casino by the Sea which offers finer but pricier food options.
Beyond location, the hospitality of everyone we encountered at the Inn was amazing! The receptionist who welcomed us on our first night also brought us a list of antique shops after learning through our discussion that we were looking for places to go. She left a printed list of several options, on a paper at our room door later that evening (without us requesting this). Ask any questions about the area and they will gladly share what they do know or do what they can to find out more for you. It's service with a sincere warmth!
The effortless manner in which you are made to feel at home is best appreciated at breakfast, because it adds on to an already great breakfast. Breakfast (from 8:00-9:30) has a different main option each day (cranberry pancakes, cheese and veggie omelette, french toast) with a different side option (i.e. fruit salad, corn muffin). Everything is beautifully plated, fresh, and you are constantly looked after while being given space to enjoy your morning. Breakfast can be enjoyed inside or outside on the front porch.
Other beautiful aspects of the Palmer Inn include the numerous gardens to sit in, the decor, and the nice little touches that make you feel at home including the beach towels they provide if needed and an umbrella for rainy days if you forget one. The owners have a huge, but peaceful and cute dog, named Brody. If you are uncomfortable around dogs, this may present a problem to you. He really is a lovable and easy good boy though.
The beauty of this Inn, built in 1901, is evident inside and outside. The rooms are variable in size and decor. We stayed in 2 rooms as we had to switch for our last night since we added it on last minute. They helped us move our stuff in between each room while we were out for the day, which was yet another lovely touch of care. Both rooms were very clean. The sheets are cute and nice. The showers are a little small as is the TV but it does not take away from the overall experience. One bathroom had no window in it, so ventilation of steam can be a problem.
Overall, we were extremely satisfied and happy with our stay at the Palmer Inn. We recommend it without hesitation to all, and hope you leave it feeling the same way. Thank you to everyone who made our...
Read moreWhen my wife and I decided to spend our Honeymoon at Cape Cod, we found Palmer House Inn, and we are certainly glad we did! Our stay at Palmer House Inn was everything we could have hoped for and more.
Palmer House Inn is conveniently located just a short 5-minute walk from the main strip in Falmouth, and about a 10-minute drive to Woods Hole and several amazing beaches. The location could not be better, especially if you plan on catching the Martha's Vineyard Ferry.
The Inn itself exceeded our expectations. It was well-maintained, cozy, and exactly what we expected from a Cape Cod home built in the early 1900's. The decor was great, and it was so nice walking into the main living area and hearing Big Band music playing. Every morning they offer a complimentary breakfast, which was great. We stayed in the Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. room which was located on the third floor of the main house. The room was just as it was depicted on the website; we could not be happier with the room.
The service really set Palmer House Inn apart. The owners, Tom and Billy, were so friendly and accommodating. They provided us with excellent recommendations for things to do in the area, and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was fantastic. In addition to the amazing owners, the rest of the staff was so friendly, and extremely attentive. Simply put, the entire staff at Palmer House Inn, including its owners, were fantastic and made our stay so memorable.
Finally, the real star of the show was Brody, Tom and Billy's 185 lbs Leonberger. Brody was always around, making sure our stay was great, and fishing for a nice head scratch. If you play your cards right, you might be able to make a new friend by offering him a nice slice of bacon.
Overall, while there are many options for travelers in the Cape Cod area, Palmer House Inn sets itself apart with its premiere location, lovely house and grounds, and most importantly, its fantastic staff. We could not be happier with our decision to stay at Palmer House Inn and will be recommending it to any family or friends who plan on visiting the Cape. Thank you so much for making our Honeymoon so special!
Sincerely, The...
Read moreWe just returned from an amazing stay at the Palmer House Inn. Everything was perfect, from the exceptional hospitality by our gracious hosts, Tom and Billy, to the wonderful and warm service provided by their breakfast and cleaning staff. The Inn and grounds are absolutely beautiful and idyllic (I felt like I was in a Hallmark movie). It is extremely well maintained and very clean. The décor was lovely and reminiscent of my younger days. The beds and pillows are so comfortable that I wanted to bring them home. Our hosts thought of everything: mints, brochures and umbrellas as you enter the Inn, always available coffee, tea and hot cocoa as well as daily homemade (by Billy) baked goods such as brookies and banana bread as you enter the living room, board games and a large game table in the living room area with a very comfortable window seat and view, comfortable velvet chairs and sofas in the living room around the fireplace with the daily newspaper and magazines, comfortable rocking chairs and loveseats on the front porches, sparkling wine along with local chocolates and chips in our bedroom as well as a coffee maker, wine glasses, wine and beer openers and pretty coffee mugs, fresh bottles of water in our room daily, beach towels in a basket by the front door and more! Tom greeted us every morning at breakfast to ask about our daily plans and made very helpful suggestions to ensure we had a perfect day. We loved the location of the Palmer House Inn which was a very short and scenic 5 minute walk to downtown for shopping and restaurants. It was also only an 8-10 minute to the Steamship Authority Main Offices on Palmer Avenue to catch the shuttle to the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. We are already thinking about a return trip with family. Thank you Tom and Billy for a wonderful stay! We cannot wait to see you again. You have a beautiful inn and should feel very proud of the service you and your wonderful...
