My wife and I are currently on an out of season vacation because well soon be moving to Texas and wanted to visit the cape before leaving the east coast. I base a lot of my vacations on finding the best food in each area and when I saw this place had 4.5-5 stars on average with amazing long experience based reviews I knew we had to try it.
We ended up going a little later showing up maybe an hour before they closed and the place was full for a Tuesday night which really peaked my excitement knowing this place could draw a crowd on on weekday out of season. The building and atmosphere is quaint but has modern finishings on the inside. The lighting is slightly dim and ambiance was intimate yet vibrant at the same time because of how the kitchen is open to the bar, and everyone seemed comfortable speaking at a normal volume level.
The drinks we're good, about average compare to anywhere I've been. The menus seem to have an asian flair on all their menu items with our menu having ramen as a menu option and togarashi seasoning on the french fries.
I chose "The burger" for my meal and my wife got the pork chop. The food was by far the best I've had in a very long time. The burger being the best I've ever had and I'm a very extreme food critic. The mix of ground sirloin and braised short ribs was an amazing experience. It's funny because when I asked the waitress for ketchup for the burger, after my first bite I knew the ketchup would never touch the burger. The aoili for the fries were absolutely authentic and not just some seasoning mixed with mayo like you get in some restaurants.
I also had a few bites of my wife's pork chop and it was cooked perfectly. Tender and seasoned perfectly. She was definitely very satisfied with her meal. The overall experience and meal was beyond my expectations. When we come back to the cape we will make sure to put this on our stop list. In one meal this place has become one of my top 5 favorite restaurants. Please do yourself a favor and add this to your...
Read moreThe service was good, the quality of the cooking is great. Menu changes seasonally, and we went during the tail end of fall.
We started with the kimchi pancake and the pork belly confit. Kimchi pancake was pretty good, if not a little bit clumsy... Kimchi is usually characteristically overpowering (a good thing, difficult to work with), and the chef was clever in balancing out with raw beansprouts and a good char. In conventional Korean execution. It's brightened up with scallions and a sweeter dipping sauce (one we got here was leaning salty). Pork belly confit was good, the combination of the textures and flavours from the protein, mushrooms, squash and biscuit was excellent.
For mains my partner had the shoyu ramen and I went with the duck confit. Portions for both were generous (I went home with 1 of 2 duck legs on my plate), so not quite sure what some of the other reviewers were talking about; perhaps the chef listened to feedback? My partner was not a fan of the broth, but I thought it's complexity was excellent; light but rich, if even possible. The home-made noodles were, for me, absolutely disappointing, as they had zero bite in them, to the point of being airy. Ramen noodles exist in numerous varieties, and like whisky, there's not so much a right or wrong as much as what you prefer, so YMMV. The protein in the ramen was perfect, I'm guessing the chicken breast was sous vide before being crisped. My duck confit was brilliant, from the potatoes to the meat, everything tasted immaculate. We also had brussel sprouts on the side, which was pretty good if not a little too acidic.
We ended with home-made mint chip ice cream, and it was the perfect way to round out an evening of indulgence. You can taste the fresh mint leaves in the dessert, and the...
Read moreThis is a new restaurant that opened up around May 2016. It comes with high review, and therefore, not easy to make a last minute reservation on weekend. We were lucky enough get one by becoming early birds. We don’t mind eating dinner early, that gives more time to digest before going to bed!
This restaurant is sitting on the water, so you get a great view of the water if you get a table by the window. One thing to note, they will not seat you until your party is complete. So, if you are meeting up with people, make sure everyone is on time.
The surprising thing about this place is that they do NOT offer complementary bread. If you want some bread, you need to order them. I can kind of see a good reason for this – for there are many people who don’t really eat much of the complimentary bread, and therefore they go to waste. If you have to pay for it, then you feel like you really ought to eat them, and not waste them.
Everything we ordered - drinks, dinner, desserts - was very tasty and beautifully presented. Good portion size, and we were all very satisfied with our order, and completely full.
I am so glad to see new, wonderful, yummy restaurants opening up in this area. Although they are a bit pricey, but the quality is high, both in food and service. It is a “relax and enjoy” type of place, so the service is not fast, or I should say it is “not rushed.” I would like to go visit again for some more delicious dishes!
