Oh! Oh!! Where to begin?! 701 Prairie Kitchen is my favorite restaurant in Fargo! I have been there 5 times in the past 3 weeks. That's how impressed I am! And I am not easily impressed. My mother was a chef, therefore I have an "educated palate" and Fine Dining is my favorite hobby. The menu at 701 changes often, which is why I keep going back. So far I have enjoyed the beet salad, the pickle dip with veggies, a Caesar salad, the most recent salmon presentation (not yet updated on their online menu as I write) and it is by far my favorite! A perfectly cooked salmon filet with a bourbon fig glaze... Fig? Looked like fig... atop a bed of mashed but not quite puréed squash with roasted vegetables surrounding it and then topped with micro greens . The best salmon I've ever been served and I spent 4+ years dining in Seattle's finest restaurants! What surprised and delighted me as well was the presence of lefse on their menu! Wow! I was misty-eyed as childhood memories of my mother making lefse in our kitchen warmed my heart! LEFSE!! I ordered it to go as I was fully sated by the generous portions I'd been served. I also very highly recommend the JagerSchnitzel! Truly the best I've eaten! Cooked to crispy perfection, served on a bed of spaetzle, spot on texture, topped with mushroom thyme gravy I shall be craving for the rest of my life and likely never be able to re-create in my own kitchen! My only "complaint" is I would have enjoyed a larger side of braised cabbage. It was a "dollop". I did mention that to the bartender and he graciously offered to bring me more cabbage, but I was just commenting, not complaining and already very full. Hats off to Chef Avalon! I'm here in Fargo until mid February. So looking forward to many more culinary...
Read moreStopped by for dinner and ate upstairs at Camp Lone tree as we didn't have reservations. Parking lot is VERY small. It was a hot day so we sat inside the bar (?) area instead of on the deck/patio. The menu situation was a bit confusing having never been there. We had the limited Camp menu available but there was also a card with a QR code to view the menu which also included the menu for the restaurant downstairs. Therefore we wasted some time choosing from the wrong menu. We then waited an abnormally long amount of time for the server to come back to take our order, considering our server found time to sit down and chat with guests who were apparently acquaintances. Once he came to take our order, a friend was told the salad she chose was not an option as they were out of that lettuce. But then we were both able to order the other salad option. When the salads came, it appeared that they were both pre-made as they were in clear plastic bowls. Certainly not worth the $12 (we paid $3 extra for chicken to be added). Our other friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich with the coleslaw on the side. Some of the pork was dried/hard and the coleslaw had good flavor but was in way too much sauce. Certainly not impressed. It had a cool vibe and I can't speak to the restaurant downstairs but not sure...
Read moreTried out Camp Lonetree for the first time last weekend, and was disappointed by the service and overall experience. We arrived around 7:00, seemingly near the end of their dinner rush, and were seated at the bar.
We wait about 15 minutes before we were able to flag a server down and get our drink orders in. Once we get our drinks, the server gives us a food menu and didn't return for atleast 20 minutes. The crowd was dwindling at this point, and the servers were talking amongst themselves but it was very difficult to get their attention (even sitting at the bar).
Our food took 30+ minutes to arrive from the time of order for 2 burger baskets, and did not include the ranch I ordered. I tried to flag a server down for my ranch but to no avail. There was no ketchup/mustard/napkins to be found, or even salt/pepper which was disappointing.
When we got our bill it included many items not on intended for our tab so we had to alert the server, which took additional time after already having to flag them down to get our tab in the first place.
Overall, I don't know if I'd recommend Camp Lonetree. The atmosphere was cool, the food was okay, but I really struggled with the service we received (or...
