Smiling Moose — Restaurant in Fargo

Bathrooms are down the hall and super clean. Parking is on the street. I found parking close by but I’m not in Fargo enough to say if this is normal or not. The place is average clean, the service was good and my sandwich came out fairly fast. I liked the dude at the counter.

I ordered the Buckin’ Bronco Beef on wheat. The beef seemed prepackaged. I highly doubt they are slicing it in a back room. There’s probably freezing involved in the supply chain/shelf life, the texture slightly rubbery. The amount of beef was very skimpy and oily, dripping oily, and I’m not sure why. It didn’t taste like butter or olive oil and I don’t think it’s from the fat. It’s not flavorful like from a hamburger or steak. I kinda think it’s vegetable oil. There wasn’t enough meat to overcome the taste of the bread and toppings. So I would consider this a bread sandwich with some toppings, cheese and a hint of beef. There’s so little beef I wonder if this is normal.

Our first time coming here & well maybe our last sadly. The two employees were friendly but that's the only good news. We just went in for a quick bite since we were in a hurry. They weren't busy. One person before us & two came in after us. I seldom write negative reviews but it's warranted. For what we ordered it took way too long. From the photo, as you can see, what I ordered was just terrible. It was burnt & fell apart. I don't have a photo of the grilled cheese sandwich but it was just as bad. The cheese reminded me of fake cheese that comes in the individual wrappers. I will say that my wife was happy with her burger. The rest of what we ordered...

I’ve been to Smiling Moose Downtown many times and it’s been awesome every single time up until yesterday. I walked in and an employee had just finished up on the phone with who I presume was a manager regarding job performance. He immediately started complaining to his other coworker in the back about this phone call. This went on for about 5 minutes and nobody even acknowledged I was there to order my lunch. I left disappointed and got lunch somewhere else, but I’m positive that my next experience will be a good one.
