Nestled in the heart of downtown Fargo, this dining experience was authentic and delicious. We were able to dine outside in the mild August evening, and still got amazing service from our adorable, friendly, heavily-tattooed waitress. I and my partner demolished the sausage platter that is supposed to serve 3-4. We proved that to be incorrect, although I found myself guzzling water the next day. The giant pretzel that came with the platter was paired with beer cheese dip. Buttery goodness, dense dough, with a hint of crisp (not crunch) on the bottom. Sausages ranged from traditional to hot and spicy, to hint of sweet, many choices. All of this comes served with sides of authentic German potato salad, braised red cabbage, sour kraut, and grilled peppers. Don’t hate me, but I gave up alcohol about 26 years ago so I’ll take my dining companions’ word for it: the beers were very tasty. And their meals were amazing too: Spaetzel Mac ‘n Cheese with buerre blanc sauce, topped with toasted bread crumbs, and the Glazed Ham Sandwich-apricot glazed ham and melted cheese on a toasted French roll with a side of homemade horse radish. If you’re looking for a diet plate or some salad, you have one of two choices: 1) order the house salad, the only item in the menu for masochistic eaters, or turn around and exit immediately. This is for the hungry and the brave.

After my first visit here I wasn’t originally going to write a review, but once I visited again and it was just as fantastic as the first time, I decided to finally give Wurst Bier some much deserved recognition. Don’t be fooled by the name- they serve far from the “wurst” items.. more like the “bierst” German food and tap drinks. Ha, I tried really hard there so please just appreciate the effort. There are two Wurst Biers- this downtown location and one in West Fargo. I believe this is the original location, and it’s way freaking cooler than the WF one anyways so come to this one for the full experience. It’s just got such a cool vibe and it’s different in each room depending where you sit (or outside!). Okay, so real talk. You can’t go wrong with any of their appetizers, and their bavarian pretzels are absolutely TO DIE FOR. Yep, you read right- their pretzels are incredible. They’re about the size of your face and come with cheese and marshmallow dipping, and are heaven in your mouth. The food here is just fantastic- heavy, as it is German food, but fantastic nonetheless. And they have a lot of good alcohol options to pair them with. There’s even a bacon & beer flight where you have 4 types of bacon and specialty beers to wash down each bacon with. Tons of fun!

We went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't crazy busy, which we were very thankful for as we found most places in Fargo get really packed with people from out of town on the weekends. I ordered a strawberry/peach sour, when the server brought it over I took a sip and it was pure salt water. I gagged and was horrified at the taste. When our server came back, I politely told him it was disgusting and asked if that was suppose to taste like saltwater. He was confused and right away said he'd get me a new one. He left and then came back 5 minutes later and profusely apologized for the error. Apparently the bartender had not flushed out the saline solution and that was what was poured for me. Ick. He gave me a new glass of the sour and it was quite delicious. The food overall was really good. We started with Bavarian pretzels and they were hot and soft; our entrees were the Jaeger Schnitzel and Porketta sandwich. The schnitzel was was slightly over cooked but still flavorful and the cabbage was some of the best we've ever had. The porketta was flavorful, juicy and tender. It would have been a 5 if not for the saline incident but I'm glad that means they're keeping everything clean!

Würst has a relaxed feel from the moment you walk in. The place is very spacious and inviting. And much like the name suggests, the menu geared towards bratwurst. The menu has an assortment of delicious brats to choose from, but also has some other notable items in there like the Buzzfeed mentioned Spaetzle Mac & Cheese. This was one of the items I had today, and it is understandable why its gotten some attention. The pasta isn't the usual elbow macaroni, but Spaetzle which is a traditional German dumpling and its accompanied with beurre blanc cheese sauce. The warm creamy, savoury goodness is certainly good to comfort those who order it, especially on those cold and windy Fargo days. The other dish I ordered was the Buffalo Bleu brat, which is a buffalo style flavor with bleu cheese, which was good, but there was more bleu than buffalo, so I didn't get that desired heat, but it was still delicious. And of course you can't forget about the extensive tap selection to wash down whatever hearty meal you decide. Definitely a good spot to drink or dine. And if you have any questions, the staff there is very helpful and more than kind.

What a great place we stumbled upon during our work trip tonight! We’ve heard great things from coworkers about this place and boy were they right!! The atmosphere was clean, unique, and the service was top notch! From the seater who sat us to the food runner who delivered our dinner, everyone did a great job making us feel comfortable! But we want to give a special shout out to our server Hunter! He was very patient with us as we asked him numerous questions about the menu, drinks, and also recommendations for bars to visit after dinner! He was very personable, friendly, and genuinely loved serving people! I ordered the Chicken Apple Sausage Classic Hoagie for dinner which was delicious! But our favorites were the Bavarian Pretzel Appetizer and the poutin fries!! By the way, IT’S A MUST TO EAT THE PRETZEL WITH THE MARSHMALLOW FLUFF!!! You won’t be sorry! Hunter noticed we loved the Marshmallow Fluff so much, he gave us a little extra for our friend’s fries! It’s the little gestures like what Hunter did that will make us come back for more!! Please recognize Hunter for his wonderful Guest Service!! He deserves a raise!

So I was between a four star and three star post and tipped the tie to four stars since I can’t give a 3.5. 4 star qualities: The atmosphere is great, nice to come in and sit down wherever. They are quick to serve as well. Service is second to none, they are quick, food came out within 5-10 minute, was hot and fresh, no complaints there. Beer- fantastic list and price point Value and quality- the amount of food you get for the price can’t really be beat. Food taste- this is where I give them three stars, except for the pretzels for the appetizer. The pierogis were frozen, not homemade, and their fusion spin on a lot of the food leaves much to be desired. The schnitzel was not good, it’s deep fried to the point where the flavor profile is the hot oil remnants trying to work their way out and the kraut was not good. The sauce on top was dried out. I think I’d go with a burger or sausages next time. Not authentic German but still, that’s my only gripe. Had I known that going it, it would have been a brat and burger and beer day with pretzels.
