Farmington has very few restaurants, but the ones it has are very, very good. El Charro is no exception. You walk in and are greeted like family, with a very casual atmosphere to make you feel instantly at home. At first glance the food looks like the usual Mexican fare, but they tweak their recipes slightly to bring you a unique experience. My son's favorite is the Burrito Chipotle, which he orders every time, and he doesn't even like spicy food normally. It's just done that well here. All of their dishes are like that, from the chimi's to the street tacos. And if you ask for extra cheese on the nachos, you actually get so much that it's almost too much. And that rarely happens anywhere. Just like Weng's and Farmington Steak House, this is another hidden gem in small town that you will treasure over...
Read moreWe went to El Charro for lunch today on the recommendation of our neighbor-friends. What a wonderful treat it was. Be sure to go hungry. El Charro is owned-operated by a local family and really does Mexican food right! Our server, Carlos/Charlie, was terrific and had great recommendations for us. We had the Molcajete Guadalajara which was plenty for 2-3 people to share (and take home extras) and there are two other variants of the Guadalajara for us to try in the near future. The bar has a decent variety of tap/bottle beers, wine and, of course, margaritas. Plus, they have a pleasant-looking patio for summer use (alas, too cold and windy today to be eating outside). This place is definitely worth trying out if you like authentic, family-style Mexican fare. We'll definitely be going...
Read moreYou Want Salt? Eat here! I know what to expect (Minnesota Mexican) for 34 plus years, and this is the worst ever. Every single item was over-salted to the point of saturation. The chips, ground beef in the taco, chicken in the enchilada was the worst, shredded beef in the burrito. On top of it all, we were the only table at 2:30 p.m. on a Friday, and the waitress made us feel like we were inconveniencing her life. Sad. ...(we still tipped Over 20 percent!). Changed servers halfway through, service spotty at best. Never mind the dead flies on the window sill, and live flies around our table the entire time. (Landing only son's head, my hat, and my wife's food throughout) Very disappointed! Sooo salty, uggggh.
Will NEVER eat at El Charro...
