For many years, we have enjoyed Farmington Bakery’s items, especially holiday orders. However, pick-up for Thanksgiving this year was a mess. A chaotic environment with employees yelling at each other, no organized system to find orders, resulting in many incorrect and missing orders and angry customers, some who simply walked out. Someone came to pick up a pre-ordered loaf of unsliced rye bread, but given a sliced loaf instead, which wouldn’t work for the planned stuffed bread recipe. A curt, “Well, it’s all we have” was the bakery’s offer after the customer explained why sliced bread wouldn’t work, before angrily leaving sans order. Our preorder included two pies, with written notes to add extra course and sanding sugar on top, were not available because “maybe someone else got that.” Another preordered item was missing because, “we sent that pie to to Canon Falls.” An employee who answered the bakery phone when I called, said that the new owners, (his parents, he said) were not involved with Thanksgiving operations, but instead “left all this for someone else to manage.” When I tried to point out that this was a pre-paid order, done incorrectly and missing an item, the employee continuously interrupted with a myriad of excuses. When he finally stopped with the excuses, I suggested a partial reimbursement to which the young man loudly snapped, “You are not complying!” Wide eyed and speechless that the owners permitted their son to treat customers so badly, I politely ended the call and support for this business.
*Addendum to include the owner's unsolicited email in response to online review.
"From what I understand 1️⃣ you received everything in your order but the pies had regular sugar on them instead of extra coarse sugar (which was such a small error). I’m a little confused as to why you are 2️⃣ disputing your entire order and trying to get a full refund. You received all of the product and 3️⃣ consumed all of it so therefore why are you entitled to a full refund?? I would have worked with you to provide you a discount off of the pies if they weren’t 100% to your satisfactory but at this point since 4️⃣ you weren’t even willing to come to me first and try to work this out, I’m not willing you give you any money back. I hope you understand we had over 300 orders and being almost perfect when dealing with that quantity is virtual impossible and I’m so shocked and disappointed that someone like you can’t see that and be more understanding and caring. Sweet Kneads Farmington Bakery”
Responses: 1️⃣ False, I did not receive everything ordered and the error described was not the only problem. 2️⃣ False, I requested a partial reimbursement for the incorrect and missing items, not the entire order as described. 3️⃣ False, I did not "consume all of it” as described. In fact, a source providing this level of detail, is unlikely. 4️⃣ False. A resolution attempt was made within an hour. As previously mentioned, I spoke with someone who identified as the owner’s son, who impulsively snapped, "You are not complying” while I explained why a partial reimbursement was reasonable.
We have many fun memories of visiting this cute establishment over the past 15+ years. For several years, this bakery was our ‘go to’ for large holiday orders. I don’t remember an error and holiday pickups were friendly and organized. Our kids loved going as they were allowed to pick out an extra treat. I remember working together with Gina to design custom birthday cakes as effortless and exciting.
This most recent experience, however, has been nothing short of problematic, including an overarching victim mentality and limited accountability. Responses are unprofessional and full of inaccuracies, excuses and unreasonable customer expectations.
Despite my recent negative experience, I am sorry to hear the owner describe her bakery as chaotic and causing a high level of stress. Hopefully, operations improve in the new year, offering a better...
Read moreWe originally were recommended Farmington bakery by our wedding venue. So we did cake tasting, loved the cake, and decided we'd go with them for the wedding cake. Then 2020 happened and our wedding reception was postponed. But I still had a small wedding and I love cake and supporting local businesses, so I ordered a little single tier cake to share with my close friends who were able to join us for our special day.
First off, great customer service and the cake was beautiful. I also had specified regency purple or any other cool purple and they nailed the requested purple. My original request for exact writing was "Marriage ♡" and they added more little hearts around it which was perfect cause it was just super cute and aesthetically pleasing.
But the thing I really came here to say: their cake has changed three of my friends opinions on cake. One friend does not really like cake, but still requested a tiny slice to try. She loved the cake. It changed her whole outlook on cake and she's spoiled for other cake because of Farmington bakery. Another friend isn't really into frosting, but really liked the frosting. The third friend generally prefers pie but saw the light of cake with this cake. So thank you Farmington bakery for the delicious cake, you know not the power you have.
Probably also helps I picked an excellent combination: almond cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. Still, definitely 95% of the power of this cake comes from the quality of it. Also, I impulse bought ginger cookies and I can FEEL how buttery they are, which is excellent. Love those cookies. 6/5 would recommend...
Read moreMy husband and I got married this past June, and we used Farmington Bakery for our wedding cake. We couldn’t be happier about this decision!! We LOVE to support a local bakery. This was SO MUCH BETTER than supporting one of the big name bakeries in St. Paul and Minneapolis that charge crazy prices for the same product. We LOVED the taste and quality of the cake. We absolutely couldn’t have asked for anything more. We did cake tastings at some of the big name city bakeries and a tasting in Farmington. We got quotes for each company. We could get a 3 tier cake (and sheet cakes for the rest of the guests) DELIVERED to our Minneapolis venue from Farmington Bakery for the SAME PRICE as a little itty bitty 1 tier cutting cake (and sheet cakes for the rest of the guests) from one of the big name bakeries in the cities. That is just RIDICULOUS if you ask me and a NO BRAINER to use Farmington Bakery!
Melissa, from Farmington Bakery, was SO SWEET and easy to work with for our tasting. They have a room in their newly designed bakery designated for cake tastings which really made the experience special for us. We picked out our flavors and design that day, made our down payment, and then everything was all set! I will attach pictures of our cake!
As previously mentioned, our cake was delivered to our venue which I highly recommend. Let the professionals do it!! It was seamless.
Everyone LOVED our cake!!! It was hit and everything that we wanted. Thank you again, Farmington Bakery!! If you are getting married, please consider Farmington Bakery for your cake needs!! Happy...
