The place was being cleaned while we were there but the food left me with so much to be desired. I am confident that the owner(s) are not eating what is being cooked because EVERYTHING tasted old. I had the Japchae, it tasted stale. I'm plant based so I'm very astute about the quality of my food. If you know, you know. Also, my companion had the fried chicken and it looked like it had been fried some days before then refried to attempt to freshen it up because it had those holes on the legs, which were various sizes, which was questionable, and the fries tasted like they were cooked in very very old oil. All of the food that i tasted left a sour taste on the back of my tongue and made my breath smell awful after eating there. Again, if you know you know. I started getting indigestion as I was eating and came home and ate celeey to clean my pallette. I even had a rush bathroom experience. As if my body was like, i can get nothing from this - REJECT. And even this morning as I write this review after flossing, dental sticking, electric tooth brushing and rinsing, my nightly oral routine, today my tongue is still funky from their food! Also, I'm someone who ALWAYS takes away my leftovers, why not?! š But not from Bonchon. I was hungry and was driven to eat it but eventually tried my body just wouldn't, so I left more than half of my food on the table. I mentioned the food quality to a staff person, and honestly, I should've stopped eating after the first three fork fulls. It was truly that bad. Also, they do this wierd thing where when you dine-in they dont serve your food on glass plates but instead they bring your food to you in to-go boxes instead. I probably wouldn't have written this review but just before writing my body was sweating profusely trying still trying to process the food, and here I am. Will I eat here again? No. As for you,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLong post warning My sister and I went inside and sat down and waited for about 20 minutes before we were even spoken to by staff to order our food. There were only about 3-4 other tables in the restaurant with customers at them and at least 1-2 of them already had their food. After ordering we waited maybe another 40 minutes before we got any food at all and had to ask for water a 3rd time. During this time almost everyone in the restaurant had been served but us and even a table of 5 that came in long after us waited no longer than 20 minutes for the entire table to receive their dishes. We still never got our water at this point so I had to physically get up and go to the front to tell them that we had neither all of our food nor any water and we finally got both after I got back to our booth. I also had to ask for our other complimentary sides that are supposed to come with the meal. After getting the bill, I politely asked if we could be accommodated or discounted for our issues throughout the night and she gave us a 10% military discount. I then asked if we could get 2 to-go sides of rice for our dishes before leaving (which only cost about $1.30 each) and she refused to give them to us unless she too away the 10% military discount she had given us. Overall, the food wasnāt bad but it was hard to enjoy after being there for over an hour and being ignored the entire time; we didnāt really appreciate the way the situation was handled. If we were to eat here again it would be an online order or if I were invited for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI discovered this place during the pandemic of 2020 and for a few years they would only do take out service. They finally reopened their dine in this year 2023 and I only wonder why they didn't open back up sooner? Understandably many businesses wanted to wait it out and make sure it was safe to do so but numbers were at an all time low for the area for a long time and they still limited their service to only take out. They had a young man handling the register when they were only doing take out and it always seemed like working was the last thing he wanted to spend his time doing. Food at least was good during this time so I kept coming back, Korean Fried Chicken is an essential to my life and this Bonchon was the only one in my area (it was still a 40 minute drive).
When their dine in opened, they had new people at the register and they were significantly nicer than the previous guy. I could tell now that this was a family run restaurant as one staff members looked younger than 18 years of age. The restaurant is always very clean and the food is generally consistent every time I go. Sometimes the chicken is a bit dry or thin (the tenders) but at least the flavor is always there. The takoyaki is always good as well and I get it as a side almost every time. Fries are consistently crispy and well seasoned although getting them take out will guarantee they go soggy.
3.5 stars when it was take out only. 4 stars when dine...
