Short version, good food with noted exceptions, could use a slimmer menu and/or extra staff.
This place is something else. It is clearly a repurposed fast food place, as the structure is nearly identical to fast food joints of some years ago.
As far as the atmosphere goes, it varies by time and customer count. I've been there when it was full and when it was my wife and I. It feels better when there's people there I promise.
The place could definitely use an overhaul. Frankly, the menu could too. Not that I mind Korean food (though little of the food can truely be said to be uniquely Korean), but the menu is massive. I mean, absolutely gargantuan. This is in part due to the sushi menu on the back, and if the staff was more than two people, I could see that working. Bev that as it may, we had some difficulty deciding what to eat. Also because the staff is limited, it feels as though they have too much going on to handle when they are busy. Those hours can see waits of 30 minutes to an hour from the back log, and if anything goes wrong, and we're only human, it can get worse.
While we're on the subject, let me talk about their interactions. I cannot speak for the couple personally (I get the feeling they're a couple) but they can be a bit short. Don't take it the wrong way, they aren't rude so much as direct, but on occasion it does come off badly.
Now, back to the food. It tastes pretty okay? I wouldn't mention it outside of this review, but given what I've written of before this, the food isn't terrible. The portions were pretty large, so you could absolutely take some home (I do, every time). You pay for it too, as a lot of the food is 1-3 dollars shy of 20. As for the sushi, the rolls seem like variations on a theme for the most part. Cream cheese, eel, avocado, maybe eel sauce or spicy mayo with spicy tuna, and that is most of the menu. Especially the cream cheese. I like cream cheese, but uh . . ....
Read moreI went here with the expectation of goodness, and so I am well pleased. The food was delightful, but the overall quality of the place lacked genuine respect and undermined the business, as the establishment is not welcoming. However, the establishment does offer a wide selection of food, but this is not without drawbacks. Some foods, like the California roll did not live up to my expectations. Also, the family of the restaurant were dis ingenious, which casted a shadow of doubt upon the sincerity of what they said. The family and services seemed very underwhelming, but the food is solid. Oh and none of the food is grilled, so false advertising.
Pros ++ Variety of options to choose from Generally good food Family owned ++ Beautiful Food presentation Food directly served to you
Cons Dis ingenious Service inconsistent food quality, mediocre — Unwelcoming outside — False advertising (not grilled)
Mixed —+ The fact that your payed before food, unique but sketchy -+ Smaller cups, promotes cost effectiveness and lower rates of obesity, despite the option to refill. -+ Upside down outlet (Whoever installed that was a genius) was funny. -++ The option to get a menu and stand and look above.
Overall, generously 4/5 stars, closer to 3.5 stars....
Read moreKJ's KBBQ is hands-down one of my top favorite restaurants in Fayetteville! The food is always delicious and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. Whether dining in or getting takeout, my food has always come exactly as ordered, hot and with a perfect portion size! Don't let the menu intimidate you if you're used to Chinese or Japanese, there is a great option for everyone! If you're new to the restaurant, the Bibimbap is a great meal to start with. This rice bowl includes yummy veggies pickled and basic, a hefty portion of rice, plenty of slices of traditional beef, all topped with a perfectly fried egg! The ramen is always a favorite here as well, although it is more on the spicy side. Kimchi lovers should try a bowl of the Kimchi Jigae, a great option for a spicy, warming winter soup. The sushi here has always been made just right and fresh. Although not Korean, the Chicken Katsu has always hit the spot when I'm looking for something more indulgent. The bento boxes are a great deal for trying multiple items. I love KJ's Korean BBQ, it's one of my favorite hidden gems that I always recommend to...
