Driving through, we discovered this spot for lunch and it turned out to be a gem on this particular trip. Penguin Ed’s had a wide variety of bbq favorites and each of us enjoyed our meals. The Littles had their cheeseburgers, fries, and side salad, and they enjoyed them. Mrs. Flip Out had the Friday special of smoked meatloaf, green beans, and mashed potatoes. It was seriously the best meatloaf she’s ever had; it had great flavor and delicious. I had a 2 meat combo plate with burnt ends and ribs with bbq beans and house fries, a cup of chili. The chili was delicious and I would order it every time. The ribs and burnt ends had excellent flavor. If we lived in the area, this would undoubtedly be one of our go-to restaurants. The service was outstanding! We also shared 2 cookies amongst ourselves, and they were amazing. We had the Nieman Marcus and the Toffee Pecan cookies. Hope you check it out and enjoy it as...
Read moreI consider myself a bit of a BBQ snob. I spent 7 yrs going to KC MO for business and I still believe that this is the “Mecca” for BBQ and everything is compared to this. My strong suggestion is for the pit masters and chefs at this restaurant, to spend some time in the KC market on how to properly make brisket and especially ribs. I had a 2 meat meal with ribs and brisket. I was disappointed in both. The ribs were not very tender nor flavorful. They were very bony, fatty and hard to eat. The Brisket needed to be cooked longer and didn’t have much flavor. The Mac & cheese was good but bbq beans were average. Wright BBQ is still one of the best in Fayetteville and closest to KC MO. However their cookies are the bomb and do recommend those and the service and atmosphere was very respectful and good. I probably won’t be back only because I’ve had better BBQ at...
Read moreWe stumbled upon Penguin Ed's while on vacation just outside of Fayetteville. We're from KC, so we are well acquainted with good BBQ. I truly believe that if Penguin Ed's were to open up in KC, they would fare very well. The brisket was melt in your mouth tender, the smoked chicken was to die for, smoked sausage was sliced thin and smoked to perfection, and all the sides we tried paired well. (Gotta love that fried okra)
As fantastic as the BBQ was, the scene stealer were their homemade fried PIES. Freshly fried while you waited - crispy perfection on the outside, decadent filling on the inside.
And a quick note about staff and service: servers and waitresses were quick with refills and attentive, restaurant was clean and had the nice, laid back atmosphere of all of my favorite BBQ joints. If we're ever in the area again, we will definitely revisit...
