Review updated after the management’s reply.
I’ve dined here a few times with my wife. Got the food from the Spoon’s main menu and it was well prepared the first time. The second time the same dish she had had very little meat and too many super chewy greens. I tasted it both times and had to spit out both the chewy meat and the veggies, cuz they were super stringy. Dumplings were over fried and those chopsticks were the cheapest I’ve ever seen.
Note: This is coming from someone who actually was a server for a long time and did all of it, including mopping floors, in both the nastiest suburban hibachi Asian place, upscale Asian fusion restaurants, and a whole range steakhouses and fine dining establishments around the country.
This negative review is not brining me any pleasure but I’m hoping it will be taken seriously and they will address those things in a timely manner.
Here’s the reason my overall rating is only 2 stars:
these guys want you out of there asap before the closing time, and they aren’t shy to make sure that it is indirectly communicated through the most obnoxious pre-close I’ve ever experienced.
I get that everyone wants to go home early but sitting at the restaurant 35 minutes before close with all the chairs put up and cleaning crew ruining the experience with mopping the floors right next to you, with super concentrated Lysol stinking up the whole place, while people are still eating…(!) That’s bad manners, at the very least, and at the worst completely rude and inappropriate. Not to mention, bad for your business.
We literally walked across on the wet floor towards the exit almost slipping, with the main guy telling us to be careful… Not a single ‘Wet Floor’ sign in sight. 🤣
Also, if the cleaning crew likes to listen to their own music, that’s cool, but have they not heard of headphones or earbuds…? I really like those awesome Mexican jams too but… having to listen to this dude’s phone on full blast out of his back pocket, competing with whatever was still playing on the system speakers… That is just ridiculous.
The lesson here, don’t go later than an hour before they close if you don’t want to be disappointed. Unless of course the management or owners take this to heart and actually...
Read moreWhat else is there to say besides "This place is AMAZING!". First and foremost is the owners/staff. They go beyond just smiling faces and pleasantries. They legitimately want to make sure you genuinely get what you will enjoy and you enjoy your food. One of the owners was taking our orders and offered some very good suggestions. Came out to our table multiple times to make sure everything was good and that we enjoyed everything.
Second point is that the food is outstanding! As i stated before the owner made some helpful suggestions, even modifying and making one of the dishes especially for me. One of the undersold aspects of their food is they make the VAST majority of their meals from scratch in house. The love and care they put into their food really shows. *A note on portion size. The prices may initially look rather high, but that is because the portion sizes are HUGE! One bowl of Udon was able to feed all 3 of my kids. I wasn't even able to eat half of my spicy beef soup. *A note on spice. they offer spice in 5 levels on some dishes. I enjoy spice, that being said i like to enjoy my food, not suffer through it. A spice level of 3 is enough for you to feel it and to sweat a bit, but isn't so much you need to stop eating to let your mouth cool off. Also of note is that a 3 in a soup is much hotter than a 3 on the fried and glazed chicken.
My family and i will most definitely be returning here and i highly recommend...
Read moreFirst time here. My experience was mixed. The person at the register was completely clueless. Everytime I asked her a question, she had no clue how to answer. I mean, simple questions, like what kind of seafood is in the Seafood Pancake. Her response was, yes, it’s seafood. When questioned what kind, she said “seafood?”. Then I asked her what was in the tofu soup. She said, “Tofu?”. I asked her if it had meat in it and she said: “it has tofu?” One more try. I asked her what was in the soldiers soup. I mentioned that it looked like spam, her response was, “it probably is”. To which I ask, what else is in it? her response “spam?”. Whatever. I order a Kimchi pancake and the Tofu Soup. The pancake was absolutely flavorless. I mean, none at all. The soup was good though! My husband ordered the Udon and that was good as well. So, the food was good. But if you don’t know what you’re ordering, don’t bother asking because they won’t be able to tell you. To her credit, she did bring over another woman who understood almost no English so that was no help. Maybe the Hotdog section of the restaurant is better. But I don’t think I’d come here again. By the way, I’m Vietnamese. I’m used to going to hole in the wall asian joints where the service is horrendous. I still come back if the food is deserving. This place’s food is just ok. For me, the food needs to be really good to ignore terrible service and this place doesn’t...
