This is one of those amazing Fayetteville classic locations with a lot of quirky history behind it. Buckle up because this could be quite a long review. 1st of all, this park has a castle. Not many parks can say that. The castle is built to functuon as a giant spring box that covers the head of a huge local natural spring which is a main source for a large creek that runs through the park. Some cities would just put a stone or metal box over it, but decades ago, Fayetteville had a local architect and their students collaborate to use local materials and custom ceramic tiles to create a beautiful fairy castle over the Spring, a goldfish pond, lots of gorgeous creative bridges over the creek...sculpture benches, hidden alcoves. They built a bunch of hidden meaning and clues and puzzles into those ceramic tiles. It's called Point Seven, and there's a puzzle you can solve literally built into the tiles and decorations and layout of the installation. You would think that would be enough for one park, but the city also has a lot of plantings around that end of the park which preserve Arkansas native plants, as well as useful herbs and food plants, and some interesting botanical specimens as well. Many of them are labeled so that you can learn more about them. The Fayetteville square has something similar going on. So, make sure you check that out when you're in the neighborhood as well. The park also has a swimming pool, and throughout the summer hosts regular movie nights where you can float around in the pool watching and all ages appropriate movie on a giant inflatable movie screen. The creek that runs through the park is fun for waiting in, I've never seen anybody complain about people exploring or wading in the creek. There is a running trail that circles the park. Dogs on leash are welcome. One thing I deeply appreciate about Fayetteville parks, they don't necessarily feel the need to fill every single bit of space. So one side of the park is a gorgeous grassy field with big spreading trees, so that you can just play whatever game you feel like playing, soccer, fly a kite, croquet, frisbee. The Northwest Arkansas bike trail goes right past the park, so that makes for a fun destination for a ride or walk. The park bathrooms have always been very nice and clean whenever I go there. Plenty of basic recreational facilities like playground equipment and a tennis court also. NWA has a lot of nice public parks, and some of them have facilities just as nice or nicer, but Wilson park just has a certain flavor to it. The best way I can describe is the if you were writing a children's fantasy adventure story, you'd probly have your main characters meet up in Wilson park...
Read moreWilson park is a great place to take your kids to blow off some steam and have fun doing it. We've been taking our kids and grandkids here for 2 generations now. I do have a couple things I'd change about it if I could though, first- speed bumps to the access points would greatly be appreciated some have them but not all, or at least have a park attendant there to write citations for speeders, 2nd- during the hot days of summer it would be nice to take your child to a water fountain to get a drink of cold water, I understand the whole COVID thing so an alternative could be a vending machine for drinks would be helpful. 3rd and final is the creek that runs through it doesn't have any guard railing along side it and we've witnessed a few kids in the past years fall into the creek. Not saying the whole creek needs a guard rail but at least the areas around the playground equipment. Regardless we will still bring our kids (grandkids) here because we supervise them very well. And the...
