The democrat taco is the only barbacoa taco I've found in Fayetteville, and the experience is worth it just for this. However, if you're looking out for sodium this may not be a great choice for you. The setting, especially indoors, gets exceedingly loud unless you are there before about 5pm--this won't bother a lot of people but I feel is important to mention.
I've been three times, and usually the service is prompt and accurate. This evening there were two mishaps--tacos that were meant to be on corn tortillas (specified twice upon ordering, loudly and emphatically) came out flour, and one of our party is allergic to gluten. We had also ordered two servings of rice, and one each of the two bean varieties. The food runner that brought out the flour tacos let us know that the refried beans would be out later, but they never came.
This wouldn't be a nuisance except that you pay for the food upfront, so we had already paid for the beans before they ever didn't make it to the table.
The manager was very kind and even comped the dinner, but quite frankly a lot of embarrassment on our part and his could have been prevented if the staff paid more attention to detail. The girl who took our order read it back to me, and she also said corn tortillas. That leads me to believe it was the cooks who overlooked the details here, and cost the restaurant an entire dinner for 5.
The manager DID gift us brownies, including two gluten-free for my gluten-allergic sister. That was a special detail that meant a lot to us. The bussing staff was also polite and on-point, unobtrusive yet efficient.
However, again, the waitstaff/food runners need better training. As someone who worked in Mexican restaurants, I'm sorry but being unable to tell the difference between a corn tortilla and a flour one on sight is unacceptable.
A last note--our order was 6 tacos (5 identical), all of which were ordered on corn tortillas. I don't understand what is confusing about that.
TL;DR--overall positive, accommodating management but kitchen needs to...
Read moreOne out of Seven to Twenty people find cilantro tastes like soap. If you're one of those people, then avoid this place at all costs. Every single thing on the regular menu has cilantro, even the items that don't list it in the ingredients.
My wife and I were invited here to meet friends for lunch and we spent some time going over their menu to find items that didn't have cilantro in order that she could eat something there. She ended up ordering the Hillbilly Nachos and a taco with no cilantro and a change of sauce to one that didn't have cilantro.
The Hillbilly Nachos were full of cilantro, despite it not being listed on the ingredients online. Also, the order was delivered with the incorrect sauce, so we sent it back. The replacement had the correct sauce but cilantro all over it, so we sent it back. The third time was the charm.
We had a special order, so mistakes are somewhat understandable, but everyone else at our table had issues with their orders as well, and they were just ordering straight off the menu. It was a holiday, and the restaurant is new, but the process they use seems less than ideal.
Even once the order was correct, the result was mediocre at best. I really don't understand the rave reviews this place is getting. I won't...

Reheating items from the previous day rather than making it fresh daily. Doesn't follow standard kitchen closing cleaning. Dosen't scrap the char off the grill during rushes. Cross contam. Between pork, chicken, beef, and seafood. Staff doesn't wash hands when alternating tasks in the kitchen. I could go on for quite a while and it only gets worse. It's really quite a shame that this place fell into such bad habits. The Rogers location isn't going to be any better either. I believe that if Brad, the owner, would put more interest in the service he's providing, rather than his potential profits, then Torchy's could easily flourish into a renowned local establishment. As for now, it's still the overpriced taco fusion bar that peddles low quality food. I say low quality not as a negative remark towards Torchy's, but as an analysis of the ethic of it's workforce. To the reader I say this, go eat somewhere that's worth what your paying, because you deserve to get the quality that you pay for. Nothing less will suffice. Have a...
