As a Black man in my 30s pursuing my MBA with a background in project management and a strong focus on economic development in the Black community, I make it a point to support Black-owned businesses whenever possible. But support without accountability is charity—not strategy. I came to Truth Breakfast Bar & Grill expecting to have a great experience. What I got instead was a prime example of why some businesses struggle to scale, sustain, or earn long-term loyalty.
Let’s start with the pricing. $5 for four deviled eggs that were clearly store-bought? $17.99 for five wings and fries? $18.99 for fish and shrimp? These are luxury-level prices with fast-food-level execution. The food was over-seasoned, overcooked, and lacking in quality and consistency. Nothing on the plate matched the pricing structure. I’ve had better food at low-key local spots in Atlanta for half the price.
Then there's the service. The restaurant was almost empty at 5 p.m. on a Saturday, which should’ve been the first red flag. A family seated before me waited over 45 minutes for their food and still weren’t served. Meanwhile, a server walked out of the kitchen eating food with her hands while customers sat waiting. That’s not just unprofessional—it’s unacceptable. On top of that, an 18% gratuity was added automatically. That kind of tip structure should be reserved for establishments delivering exceptional, polished service. This wasn’t that.
The setup and presentation also missed the mark. ,only spoons available, condiments in random containers—it felt thrown together. The bar was bare-bones. The space didn’t reflect the prices, the brand promise, or the level of dining they appear to be aiming for.
Here's the bottom line: You can’t charge five-star prices for a Dollar Tree experience and expect repeat customers. People will come once out of curiosity, but they won’t return unless you’re delivering real value. Professionalism, consistency, and attention to detail are non-negotiables in hospitality—especially when you’re competing in a market as saturated and competitive as Metro Atlanta.
I'm not saying this to tear anyone down. I’m saying it because I actually care about Black businesses becoming scalable, sustainable, and successful—not just trending. I want this restaurant to thrive. I want to see them grow into the vision they clearly have. But to get there, the execution has to match the ambition. Stop cutting corners. Train your staff. Match your prices to your product. Understand your audience and serve them well. This isn’t hate. It’s strategy. And if the owners are serious about success, they’ll take this feedback and do something with it. — A brother who builds,...
Read moreLet me preface by saying the following: the staff at Truth warned me that they were understaffed and that wait times would be longer. However, while I expected longer wait times, I didn't expect the rest of my experience.
The atmosphere upon entering is great. Clean, fashionable, and inviting. We were served to a table in a timely fashion. Once we were sat down, we were curiously offered with two separate servers. One from the bar and one from the main dining room. We ordered mimosas and were charged separately. The bar server was kind and attentive, offering us good options and spoke plentifully.
Our dining room server, on the other hand, was not so attentive. We asked for coffee refills and waited some fifteen minutes for refills. We received no updates from the kitchen or reassurances given our wait time. We waited approximately an hour plus for our food. My mother, who is diabetic, began experiencing issues due to the wait. Additionally, other tables who came after us were served first and sporadically. Two seats at our table were served before the other two. Food did not arrive together or in any sensible order.
The food itself was good. For the quality though, the prices were too high. On average, expect to spend $50 per person for a full meal, including drinks. The quality of what is offered does not match the requested price.
After we received the bill, our party had concerns about the pricing. Again, we found it very high. Without drinks included, since they were charged separately, we paid $160.00 for four covers. Mains and one appetizer with some sides. The server was quiet and offered no reassurances or simple pleasantries. It became a very cold experience very quickly; almost like we were judged for raising concerns about what we were about to pay for. We learned that we were up charged for options we thought were complimentary, such as cheese grits and potatoes.
There were no "goodbyes" or "have a nice day" once we left. Out of all the categories, Truth fails at service.
Overall, I would not return nor would I recommend the restaurant. I would wait for them to rectify their staffing issues, address the service quality, and reassess the pricing on their menu. I sincerely hope changes do come, as the place has plenty...
Read moreI decided to come here after considering another brunch spot in Fayetteville. The menu options was the deciding factor for me. The Yelp reviews were average and one thing that was a conmon denominator was the the LONG wait times.
I was with a large group totaling 10. We were seated immediately on this Sunday and we ordered our meals within 15 minutes. The appetizers came out pretty quickly. The fried green tomatoes was delicious, it could have been fries harder and was a little bit salty for me. However if you like fried green tomatoes you will like this appetizer. I was able to try the deviled eggs. To me they were just okay.
Now onto the interlude if this review. The WAIT. It was long, oh so LONG. I'm talking over an hour. Our mimosas (The watermelon and the peach flavors was very good) got warm we waited so long. Mind you I was on a road trip and had four states left to drive through to get home!!! Needless to say it was a delay I would have rather not have ran into.
The food did come after they hunted, processed, and cooked the food finally. The food was good one of the members in my party has ordered steak and eggs. The steak came out burned, however they did prepare another one and it was delicious cooked and prepared medium. Service was good throughout!
I ate the fried lobster tail with funnel cake waffles and scrambled eggs with cheese. This meal was worth the wait or perhaps I was so famished that conclusion was already written. But it was very tasty. I'm not a lobster eater but I enjoyed this fried lobster tail. It was cooked well, and seasoned well except for it being salty. The funnel cakes waffles were delicious it's waffles made with funnel cake batter. This was my first time experiencing something like this and i was impressed and thoroughly enjoyed it. The eggs came unseasoned but nothing some table salt and pepper didn't fix for me. Everyone in my party had nothing but great things to say about their respective meals.
If I'm ever in the area I'll come here at opening and be prepared for the wait knowing there's great food at the end of that wait along with...
