I spent time researching restaurants for our mom's 80th birthday at the beach. 3/4 restaurants never replied to my emails or answered their phones. Messages weren't returned. However, Patrick at Jr's Seafood answered quickly and was more than willing to accept a reservation for our group of 12 including 4 children! He even was willing to allow us to bring a cake with us if we wanted!
I chose this restaurant for the kids menu first! They offered healthy options for sides instead of typical fries only. Kids meals came with dessert! For the adults, drink menu looked amazing and food and many options! Something for everyone from burgers to lobster tail.
At the day of our reservation, we were greeted kindly and our table ready eventhough the restaurant was FULLY LOADED and very busy! Our waitress couldn't have been nicer, she was right there getting our drinks, appetizers and having fun with the kids! The waitress did TWO AMAZING things!
First, she advised us to put our dinner order in with appetizers due to being busy and promised the food wouldn't come out together. It didn't and there was plenty of time to enjoy the appetizers and chat. Second, she delivered the kid's food about 5 minutes before the adult dinners!
This enabled the adults to get the kids all set up before their meals came to the table. Nothing worse than eating a cold meal after helping your kids with their food, lol. On top of that, kids meals come with desert. Which showed up just as the adults were almost dine eating, but at a good time to keep the kids happy!
Food was absolutely delicious, mixed drinks ROCKED and the prices were definitely very good for the beach. We didn't feel the menu was overpriced, portions were filling.
This was our first time at Jr's Seafood and definitely not our last. We'll be making Jr's a MUST VISIT each summer! Call ahead, make that reservation and enjoy! Make sure you tell them the Challenger Party sent you!
Thank You Patrick & Staff for making our mom's 80th Birthday di...

We visited J.R.’s Seafood Shack while on vacation in Ocean City, Maryland, with a party of seven. The experience was a bit of a mixed bag—some highlights, but also some drawbacks.
Starting with the positives: Our waitress was very nice, and the service overall was solid. The food came out quickly, was served hot, and everything was well-seasoned and flavorful. We started with the Carolina scallops appetizer—seared scallops with peach salsa and a ginger vinaigrette. The flavors were good, but at $16 for just four scallops, it felt a little overpriced.
For entrées, we ordered three different dishes. The Low Country Boil ($32) came with shrimp, sausage, mussels, crawfish, potatoes, corn, and a biscuit—classic Southern-style. The pan-seared salmon was served with sautéed spinach, greens, red peppers, a light tomato sauce, grilled squash, and roasted potatoes. I had the classic New Orleans shrimp and grits, which came with smoked andouille sausage, shrimp, bacon, spring onions, Creole sauce, and a biscuit. Again, everything tasted great, but the portion sizes were underwhelming for the price.
I understand that this is a tourist town, and maybe the pricing reflects that, but for an off-season visit, I was expecting a bit more value for what we paid. The restaurant itself had nice decor, even though it’s located in a strip mall.
Overall, J.R.’s Seafood Shack delivers on flavor and service, but the portion sizes didn’t quite match up to the prices. Would I go back? I’m on the fence. If you don’t mind paying a bit more for good seafood in a casual setting, it might be worth a visit—but if you’re looking for better value, you might want to explore...
Read moreBashing businesses online is not my cup of tea but here we are… We ordered chicken sliders from the kids menu to our three year old as they didn’t have beef patties. The chicken was dry and drenched in buffalo spicy seasoning. Why serve spicy food to kids, that i did not understand.
Beyond that, my mother ordered fried shrimp which everyone heard at the table than came the food which was missing my mother’s plate. We asked the waitress and she replied it’s coming right out and when her order arrived it was the wrong meal. The rude waitress blamed my mother’s accent for the food to be incorrect. That was mind boggling as everyone at the table was awaiting fried shrimp and i had plans of sharing the meal with her so it had nothing to do with accent other than waitress not fulfilling our order.
I ordered fish and chip a meal that i love and have tried in over 100 restaurants. This was by far the worst fish and chips i’ve ever had.
the good : hush puppies, salmon (my grandmother ordered)
this review probably wouldn’t have happened if the waitress didn’t point fingers but here we are. There will never be a second time that i go back to this restaurant. Stay away...
