Hana Sushi — Restaurant in Fernandina Beach

A little frustrated with this sushi establishment.. I usually eat fancy sushi but they’re closed on Mondays. I wasn’t feeling the greatest and wanted some clear soup and something light to eat. I’m not big on raw anything, so I usually tend to stick to the imitation crab rolls with anything fancy extra like topped with crab salad or lobster salad, tobokio, fish egg, eel sauce, crunch etc; so yesterday I tried calling in a roll, and they were like ya we change that part 2$ more but not other part, you will want this roll come cheese and mango. I said no I don’t want cheese and mango, I’d like to sub the tempura shrimp, and the tuna for spicy imitation crab mix. I said I’ll just look at the menu more and come in. Ya you do that she says. So I go in and I’m like hey, I’d like to get this roll,(dragonfly) but instead of the tempura shrimp and tuna inside, could I sub spicy imitation crab mix please. She said ya 2$ more, I know 2$ isn’t that much but like imitation crab cannot cost more than shrimp and tuna, so I asked she said for change, I’m like is it premade what do you have to change, it seems like it would be even easier to make, anyway I also ordered a California roll, but asked instead if the crab stick could I also sub for the spicy imitation crab mix.. she said ya 2$ more… I 🙄 and say ok. I get home and the dragonfly roll was missing the avocado, and they had the crab stick. So I paid 4$ more for I don’t even know what. Very disappointed. ☹️ just wish they could be more accommodating, when it’s reasonable at least. Will forever stick to fancy sushi, they’ve never given me a problem when asking to sub out. We visited the island for a week with our two young kids who could care less about sushi. Because of this we decided to use the carry out option. The server must have seen us outside chasing our youngsters around, because she actually brought our order out to our car window when it was ready. Everything was of exceptional quality, and care was taken to package up our order. I would have never thought that the tempura shrimp roll would have stayed crunchy in the half hour it sat in a container until we devoured it, but it was outstanding. The salmon and tuna sashimi were crazy good. This doesn't compare to the grocery store take out sushi you might be thinking of. Everything was freshly prepared, and the temperature of the sushi made all the difference. Unfortunately we were unable to compliment the chefs on their work, but we enjoyed every last bite. Very poor experience and customer service, this use to be one of me and my son’s favorite sushi place on the island but since COVID this restaurant has become trash. The poor quality has completely changed they’ve removed items from the menus and upped the price for everything else all the while reducing the quality of the food. Today I ordered 4 shrimp rolls and didn’t receive any soy sauce!!! There were 2 shrimp sauce containers and she insisted that if I wanted soy sauce I could either pay additional for it or give her back the shrimp sauce!!???!! ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS??? She was very rude and unapologetic. I’ve never never never ordered Japanese food and it didn’t come with soy sauce, I will never be back. On top of that I get home and my order is wrong and taste like the rice was over cooked or old. Never...
