My family and I were visiting Fernandina Beach while on vacation from Virginia. We enjoy Thai food and have tried many restaurants in Virginia, North Carolina and elsewhere. We are all vegetarian, so we usually call ahead to verify what items we can actually order. We arrived to find Thai Spice Cafe to be a cozy, clean, and welcoming little restaurant. The hostess at the front counter was friendly and helpful, and we were immediately seated…no waiting. We were quickly approached and gave our drink orders. Ordering and payment are done at the front counter, not by speaking to your server. The menu is broad and descriptive. Plenty of choices for everyone. I gave our order and was surprised at how quickly the food arrived. Portion sizes were just right for our family of four. The best part of the meal were the flavors and spice levels of the food. My wife and children agreed that this was some of the best Thai food we had experienced in a long time. The food had just the right level of “kick” to enhance the flavors without being overwhelming. The server checked on us multiple times and kept our drinks refilled. We ate everything and left the restaurant very satisfied. We will definitely be returning on our next trip to Fernandina Beach. Highly recommend you try Thai Spice Cafe if you...
Read moreLoses points for not sticking with the countries cooking ingredients and listing "NO MSG" all over the menu. Uneducated Americans have stigmatized MSG to the point where asian restaurants are leaving out this key, flavorful ingredient and you can tell. It got a bad rap back in the 60s thats completely unfounded, and has been proven false time and time again. It is considered completely safe for consumption by the FDA, EU, and UN bodies. Also, people don't even bat an eye when they consume it in their Doritos, Lays, Campbells soup, KFC, etc. The average American consumes 13g of it a day with only 2g of it being an additive. Foods like Parmesan Cheese, Soy Sauce, and Garlic are high in the Glutemic Acid thats in MSG. Fun fact, when Italian immigrants came to America Garlic was given the same stigmatized treatment MSG has now, and generations later we love it in our food. Its time to bust this preconceived notion NOW! Do your...
Read moreWe dined-in and ordered the Rotti Appetizer, cucumber salad, and pad see ew. The Rotti and cucumber salad were good, as was the flavor in the noodle dish. However, they clearly used canned carrots in the pad see ew, which is pretty absurd considering how cheap and easy to find fresh carrots are.
All of the dishes had one thing in common, they were ridiculously priced at $17+ for a noodle dish, which is several more than a normal Thai restaurant. Additionally, the service was very disjointed. You took a menu at the front door, sat down, and then had to walk back up to the hostess stand to place the order. You paid and tipped at the time you ordered, then sat back down. It was just unusual to attempt to run a full service restaurant like you would a take-out establishment.
On the plus side, the food arrived extremely quickly, and the service...
